Ontheonehand,theadvancesintechnologythathavedrivenindustrialisationindevelopedcountrieshavecertainlycontributedtothedisappearanceoftraditionalwaysoflife.Forexample,inpre-industrialBritain,generationsoffamiliesgrewupinthesamesmallvillagecommunities.Thesecommunitieshadastrongsenseofidentity,duetotheirsharedcustomsandbeliefs.However,developmentsintransport,communicationsandmanufacturingledtothedispersaloffamiliesandvillagecommunitiesaspeoplemovedtothecitiesinsearchofwork.NowadaysmostBritishvillagesareinhabitedbycommuters,manyofwhomdonotknowtheirclosestneighbours.
Ontheotherhand,insomepartsoftheworldtraditionalculturesstillthrive.TherearetribesintheAmazonRainforest,forexample,thathavebeencompletelyuntouchedbythetechnologicaldevelopmentsofthedevelopedworld.Thesetribalcommunitiescontinuetohuntandgatherfoodfromtheforest,andtraditionalskillsarepassedontochildrenbyparentsandelders.Othertraditionalcultures,suchasfarmingcommunitiesinpartsofAfrica,areembracingcommunicationstechnologies.Mobilephonesgivefarmersaccesstoinformation,fromweatherpredictionstomarketprices,whichhelpsthemtoprosperandthereforesupportstheirculture.
