becausetheydidnotgettohospitalquicklyenough.DrBethunedevelopednewwaysoftakingcare
ofthesick.Heinventedspecialmedicaltoolstouseoutsidehospitalsandclosetothefightingareas
sothatdoctorscouldtreatthewoundedmorequickly.Hisinventionssavedmany
lives.
In1938,DrBethunecametoChinaandhelpedtreatthewoundedduringtheAnti-Japanese
War.Atthattime,therewerefewdoctors,sohehadtoworkveryhardonhisown.Hisexperience
oftreatingpeopleinSpainwasusefulinChina.Hedevelopedtrainingcoursesforlocaldoctorsand
