6.ThegoldthatchangedlifesosuddenlyforAlaskawassoonended,andalthoughmanystoriesaboutminingcampshavebecomepartofAmericanliterature,thegoldfromAlaskanearthcontributedlesstoeconomicprogressthanthefishfromAlaskanwaters.Thefishcaughtinasingleyearrangeinvaluefrom$80millionto$90million.Fur-bearinganimalsareplentifulintheforestsandstreams,andvaluablefursealsinhabitthewaters.Afterfishing,thestate'schiefindustryislumberandtheproductionofwoodpulp.Inrecentyears,Alaska'ssinglemostimportantresourcehasbecomeoil.Thestatealsohaslargedepositsofcoal,copper,goldandotherminerals.
