populationsalsogrewquickly.Thecoyoteskilledalargepercentageofthepark’sredfoxes,and

completelydroveawaythepark’sbeavers.

Asearlyas1966,biologistsaskedthegovernmenttoconsiderreintroducingwolvesto

YellowstonePark.Theyhopedthatwolveswouldbeabletocontroltheelkandcoyote

problems.Manyfarmersopposedtheplanbecausetheyfearedthatwolveswouldkilltheirfarm

animalsorpets.

Thegovernmentspentnearly30yearscomingupwithaplantoreintroducethewolvers.The

U.S.FishandWildlifeServicecarefullymonitorsandmanagesthewolfpacksin

Yellowstone.Today,thedebatecontinuesoverhowwellthegraywolfisfittinginat

Yellowstone.Elk,deer,andcoyotepopulationsaredown,whilebeaversandredforeshavemadea
