Nearly100categoriesandabout15000varietiesoftextileauxiliariesareproducedintheworldtoday.Reportedly,theirglobalannualsalesvolumeis2.8milliontons,withasalesvalueexceedingUS$16billion.Internationally,100kgoffiberconsumes7kgtextileauxiliariesonaverage,butinChina,100kgfiberconsumesonly4kgoftextileauxiliaries.Inrecentyears,astheEuropeanUnion（EU）,theUnitedStatesandJapanconstantlytransfertheirtextileplantstoSoutheastAsia,thedemandfortextileauxiliariesinSoutheastAsiahasincreasedrapidly,exceedingNorthAmerica,WesternEuropeandJapanandrankingfirstintheworld.However,theleadingproducersoftextileauxiliariesarestillinEuropeandJapan.China'soutputofprintedanddyedclothhasgrownatanaverageannualrateofmorethan10%inrecentyears,makingChinatheworld'slargestproducertoday.WiththedevelopmentofChina'stextileindustry,thedemandfortextileauxiliariesgrowsrapidly.Inthefuture,China'stextileauxiliaryindustrywillhaveahugedevelopmentpotentialandabroadmarketprospect.

Textileauxiliariesareanimportantclassoftextilechemicals.Withthecancellationofinternationaltextileandgarmentexportquotas,theinternationalmarketissettingevengreatertechnicalbarriersandtradebarriers,especiallygreenbarriers,ontextilesandgarmentsaswellasontextiledyes.Thesegreenbarriersleadtounprecedentedbansandrestrictionsonusesoftextileauxiliaries.Amongthem,oneofthetwostrictestbarriersisthenewstandardthattheEUmadein2002,whichbansandrestrictstheuseof17categoriesoftextileauxiliaries,andtheotheristheEU'sREACHregulation.ThesebarrierswillsignificantlyincreasetheexportcostsofChina-madetextilesandtextilechemicals,greatlyenhancetheinnovationcostsofnewtextilesandtextilechemicals,anddramaticallyrestrictthedevelopmentofChina'stextilesandtextilechemicals.

Currently,thedevelopmentoftheworld'stextileauxiliarytechnologyshowsthefollowingfourmajortrends.First,complextechnologyisusedtorealizethemulti-functionalityandhighfunctionalityoftextileauxiliaries.Second,suitableauxiliariesaredevelopedfornewfibers.Third,high-techproductsareusedtocomplementandevenreplacetraditionaltextileauxiliariesaccordingtomarketrequirements.Andfourth,environment-friendlyadditivesareincreasinglypreferred.

Inrecentyears,China'soutputofprintedanddyedclothisbooming.China'stextileauxiliaryindustryhasthefollowingcharacteristics.First,itrequireslowfixedinvestmentbutproducesahighaddedvalue,leadingtoahighprofitmargin,soitattractsmanyinvestors,andthecompetitionamongtextileauxiliaryproducersisveryintenseandchaotic.Second,itmakesextensiveuseofcomplextechnology,andtheresearchoftheformulationisverycritical.Third,itfeaturessmall-batchandintermittentproduction,andproductionequipmentisversatile.Fourth,ithashighrequirementsonapplicationresearch,technicalservicesandlogistics.

However,duetohistoricalconditions,thedevelopmentofChina'stextileauxiliaryindustrystillhassomelimitationsandmanyproblemsasfollows.

（1）China'stextileauxiliaryproducersseldompublishthecompositionsoftheirproducts,andtheirproductslackinherentcharacteristicsdata.

Inherentcharacteristicsdatahasnotbeencreatedforaround3/4ofChina'stextileauxiliaries.Duetothislackofinformation,theimpuritiesinthetextileauxiliariesareunknown,andthetoxicologicalindexesandecologicaltoxicologicalindexesforthemcannotbeestablished.ThiscanincreasetheregistrationcostofChina'stextileauxiliariesinaccordancewiththerequirementsoftheEU'sREACHregulationsandaffecttheproductmixofChina'stextileauxiliaryproducers.

（2）China'scurrenttextileauxiliarystandardsarebackward

Atpresent,thequalityindexesofmostdomestictextileauxiliarieshaveregularandgeneralindexesonlybutlackcharacteristicsindexes,andtherearenodetectiontechnologiesandmethodsfortheirphysicalindexes.China'stextileauxiliaryindustryisverybackwardinareasrangingfromdetectionmethodstandardstoproductindexstandards.

（3）Chinalacksserializedandhigh-performancetextileauxiliaries,especiallyspecialtextileauxiliaries

Blendedspinningproductsofnaturalfibersandsyntheticfiberswithcomplementarypropertiesarebecomingmoreandmorepopular.Andblendedproductsofseveraltypesoffibersneedhigh-qualityandlowflowpre-treatmentanddyeing,printingandfinishingprocessesandassociatedauxiliaries.Chinacanhardlyproduceserializedandhighqualityadditivesforthisarea.

Newdyeingandfinishingtechnologiesapplicabletomanynewfabricsneednewspecialadditives.Buttillnow,thisissuehasnotyetbeenaddressedinChina.Forexample,thenewlydevelopedultra-finefibers,hetero-denierfibers,hetero-shrinkagefibers,hetero-cross-sectionfibers,hetero-materialfibers,elasticfibers,newcellulosefibers（suchasTencel,Modal,LyoceU,etc.）,compositefibersandfunctionalfibersneedspecialauxiliaries.ForexampleTencelfiberandsoybeanproteinfiberneedbathlubricantsandenzymesintheirproductionandprocessing.

ThenumberoftextileauxiliaryvarietiesthatChinahasdevelopedandproducedaccountsforonly8%oftheworld'stotalnumber.Theproportionofthespecialandhigh-gradetextileauxiliariesnowinusethatChinacanproduceisevensmaller,sosuchchemicalshavetobeimported.Forexample,almostalltheorganicfluorineanti-oilagentsusedinChinaareimported.

（4）China'stextileindustryisrelativelyconcentrated,buttextileauxiliaryproducersaresmall-scaleandscattered

China'stextileindustryismainlyconcentratedinJiangsu,Zhejiang,Guangdong,ShandongandFujianprovincesandShanghaimunicipality.Theyaccountfor82%ofChina'stotaltextileoutput,88%ofthetextileexportsand73%ofthetextileworkers.China'stextileindustryshouldgraduallyshifttoChina'smiddleandwesternregions.

AccordingtoareportprovidedbyZhejiangTransfarCoLtd,asoftheendof2009,Chinahasmorethan2000textileauxiliaryproducers,amongwhichthemajorityareprivateenterprises,about10%arejointventuresandwhollyforeignownedenterprises.Onlythreecompanieshaveanannualoutputofmorethan50000tonseach,andonly41haveanannualoutputexceeding2000tonseach.Duetothe2008globalfinancialcrisisandthe2009globaleconomicdownturnandevenstricterenvironmentaldemands,someworkshopliketextileauxiliaryproducerstemporarilywithdrewfromtheindustry,leadingtoanincreasedconcentrationofthisindustry.

（5）Themarketissharedbyfourgroups

InChina,thetextileauxiliariesmarketisbasicallycontrolledbyfourgroups.Multinationalcompaniesoccupythehigh-endmarketduetotheiruniqueproducts,wellknownbrands,outstandingtechnicalservicesandnewproductdevelopmentcapacities.Large-scaleChinesetextilechemicalproducerslikeZhejiangTransfarCoLtdandDymaticChemicalsIncmakeuseoftheirproductstabilityandrapidtechnologicalservicestocontrolthedomesticmid-tiermarket.Agroupofhighlyspecializedtechnologycompaniesoccupysomesegmentedprofessionalmarkets.Alargenumberofworkshop-likesmallproducersusetheirlow-costandgeographicadvantagestooccupypartofthelow-endmarket.

ThedevelopmenttrendandprospectofChina'stextileauxiliaryindustry

1）Companieswhocanrapidlydevelopsuitableauxiliariesfornewfiberswillquicklygainaleadershipposition

Fast,efficient,environmentallyfriendlyandenergy-savingtextileprintinganddyeingprocessesareconsistentwiththetrendofthesocialdevelopment.Textileauxiliaries,especiallyfinishingagents,canimprovetheappearance,qualityandfunctionoftextileproducts.Theycanmakefabricsoft,antistatic,anti-ultraviolet,waterproof,fireretardant,anti-mildewandanti-wrinkle;andsoaremuchneeded.Withtheapplicationofhightechnology,newtextileauxiliariesareconstantlydevelopedandareusedtoimproveandevenreplacetraditionaltextileauxiliaries.Theimplementationofenergyconservationpolicieswillpromotetherapiddevelopmentoffunctional,environmentallyfriendlyandenergy-savingproducts.

2）Solutionsthatintegratedyestuffandauxiliariesbegintobecomepopular

ZhejiangTransfarCoLtdacquiredTaixingJinjiDyestuffCoLtdanditsformercompetitorGuangdongForlandFineChemicalsCoLtd.ShanghaiAuxiliaryFactoryCompanyandJiangsuFeixiangChemicalCoLtdjointlysetupShanghaiTiantanAuxiliariesCoLtd.DymaticChemicalsIncbecameashareholderofLiaoningOxiranchem,IncandcooperatedwithWackerChemieAG.Theseexamplesshowedtheshiftfromthebusinessmodelofpromotingtextileauxiliariesandtechnicalservicesalonetothebusinessmodelofprovidingsolutionsthatintegratedyestuffsandauxiliaries.Thevalueoftextilechemicalscompanieswillbedeterminedbytheextensionoftheircustomervaluechains.

3）Cleanerproductionandenergyconservationtechnologywillhelptheindustrydevelopmoreeffectively
