Idisagreeonalotofthewaysthatthingshavehappenedforalongtimeinoureducationalsystem.Itseemsthateducatorsjustwanttogivestandardizedtests,whichfocusonlyonacademicperformanceandneglectstudents'abilitiesandinterestinotherareas.Ithinktherearealotofpeoplewhoareveryintelligent,buthaven'thadtheopportunitiestheycouldhavehadiftheyhadlearnedinabroader-mindededucationalsystem.Ifeelthatalotofcoursesthatstudentsarerequiredtotakeinhighschoolaretooacademic,and,asaresult,manykidshavelosttheirinterestinlearning.
Educatorsoftenfailtorecognizevariouskindsofintelligence.Theysimplyexertalotofpressureonstudentstobeaswell-roundedaspossible.Ithinkbeingwell-roundedisn'treallypossible.Andasaconsequence,somestudentsIbelievetobeintelligentcan'tgetintogoodcollegesifthey,youknow,haven'tscoredwellonthemathsection,eveniftheyarebrilliantwriters.
Anotherthingthatdisturbsmeisthattheso-calledweakstudentsareseparatedfromtherestoftheschool.Somekidsarekeptinaseparateclassiftheirgradesarelowerthanothers'.Andthey'reveryawareoftheirsocialposition,youknow.Ithinkitcausesthemtoactinawaythatisnotreallypositive.They'rejustactinginawaytheyareexpected.Oftentheirgradesgofrombadtoworse.Andthat'sprettysad.Ithinkthatmanyofthekidsinthoseclassesareintelligent,buttheyneveractuallyrealizetheirpotentialbecauseofthewaytheyaretreatedearlyonintheireducation.Keys:
