Theauthorofthestoryusesastrategycommonlyusedinfiction writing--the protagonist (formal, themostimportant characterinaplay,film.)returnsafterbeingabsentforashorttime tofindeverythingchangedbeyondrecognition.
Thesettingofthestoryisnotclear,butthisisnotimportant aslongaswhattheauthortriestogetacrossissomethinguniversal.
TextStructure:
Thetext canbedividedintothreeparts.Thefirstpart(para.1-7)tellsreadersthe boy’smisgivingsaboutschool.Hefoundithardtobeawayfromhomeandmom, andthoughtschoolwasapunishment.Thesecondpart(para.8-16)describes howtheboyfeltaboutschool.Hefoundthatlifeatschoolwasrichand colorfulinmanyways,althoughitalsorequireddisciplineandhardwork.In thelastpartofthetext,theboywalkedoutoftheschooltofindthatthe outsideworldhadchangedbeyondmeasureandthathehadgrownintoanold man.
