Inrecentyears,handhelddeviceshavebecomeoneofthefastestgrowingcommunicationgadgets.Mobiletechnologyisbecomingwidespreadandresearchinthisareaisurgentlyneeded.Usingasurveyinstrument,thethoughtsofmaleandfemalestudentsregardingtheimportanceandcostsofmobiledeviceswereinvestigated.Itwasfoundthatstudentstendtoconsiderthefollowingfeaturesimportant:
batterylife,mp3player,videocamera,photocamera,storagememory,Bluetooth,designandelegance,clock,calendar,organizerandreminder.Also,theyareeagertospendanamountofmoneysoastheirmobiledevicetosupportthem.Onaverage,bothgenderswouldpayextramoneyforsuchfeatures.However,themajorityoffemalesthinklessofthepricethanmalesdo.Onthecontrary,mostoftherespondentsdonotconsiderthefollowingimportant:
touchscreen,voicecommands,chat,teleconference,encryptionandcryptography,commonuseoffiles,printing.Therefore,theywouldnotspendanymoneyforthesefeatures.Interesteddecisionmakerswouldtrytoincreasetheirinterestonsuchfeatures.Moreover,allrespondentsappeartoownamobilephonewhilemostofthemdonothaveInternetconnectionathome.Ingeneral,somegenderdifferencesarefoundintheimportanceandcostsofthemobiledevices,buttheyarenotstatisticallysignificant.

Electronicsignature(e-signature)isanimportantelementinelectroniccommerceandgovernmentapplicationsbecauseitguaranteesnon-repudiationoftransactions.E-signaturesgeneratedinasecuresignaturecreationdevicecanbeconsideredlegallyequivalenttoahandwrittensignature.MobiledevicesbasedonSIM/USIMcards,whicharebroadlyextended,aretheidealdevicestocreatethesee-signatures(namedmobilesignaturesorm-signatures).Furthermore,thankstom-signaturesthedevelopmentofm-signature-basedapplicationsbecomessimplerformobileapplication/serviceproviders.Thereareseveralsolutionstocreatem-signatures.However,currentsolutionspresentsomeproblems:
eithertheyrequirethatthesolutionisdevelopedbyeverymobilenetworkoperatororthecomponentstoimplementitinthemobilehandsetaretoocomplex.Asasolutiontotheseproblemswepresentanm-signatureservicethatisnotlinkedtoamobilenetworkoperatorandwheretheclienthasmorecontroloverthesignaturestoperformtheminaneasierway.Thispaperpresentsthedescriptionandanalysisofthisnewm-signatureserviceaswellastheprototypethatisbeingtestedintheUniversityofMurcia.
