TheAfricanelephant,thelargestlandanimalremainingonearth,isofgreatimportancetoAfricanecosystem(生态系统).Unlikeotheranimals,theAfricanelephantistoagreatextentthebuilderofitsenvironment.Asabigplanteater,itlargelyshapestheforestandsavanna(大草原)surroundingsinwhichitlives,thereforesettingthetermsofexistenceformillionsofotheranimalsthatliveinitshabitat(栖息地).
