Inthecourseofhistory,Londonhaswitnessedmanycasesofextremeflooding.Theworsteventtookplacein1953,when300peoplediedduringaheavystormthatspreadacrosstheNorthSeaandfloodedthecity.Afterthisdisaster,cityplannersdecidedthatsomethinghadtobedonetoprotectthecity.
