WhatareAmericanhighschoolslike?

Well,I’mhappytotellyouwhatIknow.

WhenIstartedschoolhere,ithadalreadybeenaweeksincetheschoolopened.Atthisschool,freshmenusuallygoonatripforaboutthreedaysatthebeginningofschool.UnfortunatelyImissedthatwonderfultrip,whichwouldhavebeenthebesttimetogettoknowmyclassmates.Iwasreallysad.IwishedI’dknownaboutitearlier.

Despitethedisappointment,however,Igraduallyadaptedtomynewlifeandschool.Thereisaspaceinthebasementoftheteachingbuildingwherestudentschatandmeeteachother.Aswedonotalwayshavethesameclassroomsandclassmates,theschoolwantsustogettoknoweachotherthere.Studentsusuallycometoschoolearly,sitinthatspaceandhavefun.Aroundthespace,therearemanylockersforstudentstoleavetheirbooksin,sothatstudentsdonothavetocarryaheavyschoolbageverywhere.

Itreallysurprisesmethatwehavealmostnotextbooks.WeonlyhavetextbooksforWorldHistoryandAlgebra2andtheyarebigandheavy,likebricks.Forotherclasses,weonlyneedbinders（活页夹）withpaperinthem.Withouttextbooks,studentslearnthingsfreelyandactively.Forexample,myhumanitiesteacherjustteachesuswhatisinhermindatthetime.Weneverknowwhatwewilllearn.
