TheSpanishFluwasquitenasty-fast-spreadinganddeadly.Itmanagedtospreadacrosstheglobe,devastatingtheworld.Thensuddenly,aftertwoyearsravaging(蹂躏)theEarth,itdisappearedasquicklyasithadarisen.

Despiteitsnickname,theSpanishFludidnotoriginateinSpain.Itstrueoriginsareunknown.SomebelieveitstartedinUSfortsandthenspreadtoEuropeasAmericajoinedthewar;

othersthinkthatitpopulatedthetrenchesoftheEnglishandtheFrenchandeventuallybrokeoutin1918.Regardlessofwhereitstarted,eventuallyafifthoftheworldpopulationsufferedthedisease,withaglobalmortalityrate(死亡率)estimatedat2.5%ofthepopulation.

Modernitywaspartlytoblameforthequickspreadofthedisease.Itpassedthroughouttheworldontraderoutesandshippinglines.IthitNorthernAmerica,Europe,Asia,AfricaandtheSouthPacific.Thewardidnothelpatall-themovementofsuppliesandtroopsaidedthespreadoftheSpanishFlu,aswellasthetrenchwarfare.Imaginethespeedatwhichaviruscanspreadinacrowdedditch.ThefastemergenceofthevirusinthetrenchescausedsomesoldierstobelievethattheSpanishFluwasanewformofbiologicalwarfare.
