contradictory.Certainly,nohomeworkshouldbeassignedthatstudentscannot

completeontheirownorthattheycannotdowithoutexpensiveequipment.But

ifthedistrictisessentiallygivingapasstostudentswhodonotdotheir

homeworkbecauseofcomplicatedfamilylives,itisgoingriskilyclosetothe

implicationthatstandardsneedtobeloweredforpoorchildren.
