Ifwewanttocreateanotherpartwithoutinteractingwiththisone,wecan“Freeze”thispartbyselectingTools/Freeze
Notehowthefrozenpartissemitransparentandtheadditionofafreezeoperationisinsertedinthetreediagramwhichshowswehaveonepartmadeofonebody.
Wecannowmakeothersketchesandextrudeandgeneratetocreateallthepieces.Oncewehaveanobjectwelike,wecanmirroritormoveitbygeneratingadditionalplanes.
Ihavefoundthatthestatedshiftdirectionsfortheplanegenrationsareincorrect.ThatistellingtheshifttobeintheXdirectionwhenintheYZplanedoesnotnecessarilyproducetheXshift.Theeffectyougetdependsontheplaneyouareinwhenyoudefineanewplane.Thisseemstorepresentaprogrammingerrorthatwasnotfoundyet.Ignoringthis,andusingthe“empiricallyfound”methodofgeneratingplanesletsyoucreateseveralobjectssuchassupports.

Notehowthecolorsoftheaxisthatshowupforthenewaxisdonotmatchtheorientationofthecoordinatesystem.Usethecolortodeterminewhichshift.Hitthetransformandwhenthepulldownoccurs,choose“BLUE”whichcorrespondstoOFFSETZ.Enter–4tocausetheplanetoshiftdownby4inchesasshowninthesketch.
Hitgeneratetocreatethenewplane4whichisparalleltotheXZplanebut4inchesdown.
Gotothesketchingmode,setthegridtobe2DandSnapandset16asthedivisionsasbefore….Drawthecrosssectionofthepiecesthatwillmakeupthelegs.

Nowmakethetwosketches.Besuretostay1/16awayfromedgessothesystemdoesnotbondtogetherlaterwhenthedrawingisimportedtothesimulation.Ihavefoundthatintimateproximitybondsthepartseveniftheyare“frozen”.

Nowselecttheplaneyoujustcreated,Plane5.Clickonthe“notselected”anditwillchangeto“applycancel”.
ThenclickonthePlane5iconinthetreemenuabove.Whenithighlights,gobackandhitapply.Thescreenwillthenlooklikethis.

Nextstepistospotweld.Thisiswillsimulateourrivets.Thisisdonebyenteringspotweldpoints.Clickheretostarttheprocess.Therearethreetypesofpoints.Pointsforspotwelds,pointsforloading,andconstructionpoints.YoucanapplyBCandLoadstothe“pointsforloading”.Thespotweldpointswillautomaticallytrytoweldtonearbysurfaces.Itcreateswhatisknownasacontact/targetpairofnodes.Thesewillshowupinthetreediagramlater.Letsputinaspotweld.Itmaybehelpfultoturnoffsomeofthepiecesby“hidingthem”.Butwewillnotneedto

ClickonthePOINT1tolightthemup.Spotweldsareshownasthreecircles.rightclickandenlargetoseethem.
Inthesimulationthesepointswillbejoinedbyweldmaterialsimulatedbybeamelements.Nowcreatetheweldsattheother3places.Whenthisisdone,clickonprojectandchoose“newsimulation”toportthegeometrytothesimulationengine.Nowitisjustamatterofaddingtheloads.
Ifyouwanttoloadinthecenter,youwillneedtoaddsomeloadingpoints,usingthesamemethodasforspotweldsbutinstead,clickthewordspotweldandchangeittoPOINTLOAD.Placeabout5or10pointloadpointsonthetopcentertorepresenttheloadingbar.
