课程简介

AllstudentsinDP1andDP2havetodoCreativity,ActionandService,50hoursCreativity,50hoursActionand50hoursService.150hoursMUSTbecompletedsatisfactorilyforastudenttopasstheirIBdiploma.Itisthestudent’sresponsibilitytoensurethattheyfulfilltherequirements.

CAS–Creativity,Action,Service…….Thesethreecomponentsneedtobebalancedandstudentsareexpectedtobeinvolvedfortheequivalentofthreetofourhoursaweekoverfourterms.Thethreeaspectsmaybeapproachedasseparateareasinvolvingavarietyofdifferentactivities,orasasingleprojectcombiningthemall,oramixtureoftwoaspects.

Creativity:

Thisshouldbeinterpretedasimaginativelyaspossibletocoverthewidestrangeandotheractivitiesandtoincludecreativitybytheindividualstudentindesigningandcarryingoutcreativeandserviceprojects.Itcanalsobethoughtofas“initiative”.

Action:

Thestresshereisonbeingactive!

Watchingfilmsandviewingartwillnotdo(yourreviewsofthiswillbeacceptable).Simplelearningskillshouldbekepttotheminimum,too.Lessonsandcoachingarenotthesameasdevelopingskillsratherthanpracticingthosealreadyacquired.Actioncanincludetakingpartinexpeditions,individualandteamsports,andphysicaltraining.Itcanalsoincludecarryingoutcreativeandserviceprojects.

Service:

thismeanscommunityorsocialserviceandmayevenbecarriedoutwithinschool.WEhavemanycontactsalreadyoutsideschool,butstudentsmayalsoliketoapproachtheirowncontactsanddesigntheirownschemes.

TheAimsofCreativity,ActionandService

TheCASprogrammeaimstodevelopstudentswhoare:

•reflectivethinkers—theyunderstandtheirownstrengthsandlimitations,identifygoalsanddevisestrategiesforpersonalgrowth

•willingtoacceptnewchallengesandnewroles

•awareofthemselvesasmembersofcommunitieswithresponsibilitiestowardseachotherandtheenvironment

•activeparticipantsinsustained,collaborativeprojects

•balanced—theyenjoyandfindsignificanceinarangeofactivitiesinvolvingintellectual,physical,creativeandemotionalexperiences.

Requirements:

CASisanexperientiallearningprograminvolvingstudentsinnewroles.Studentsarerequiredtoundertakeanewactivityoranewroleinanexistingactivity,e.g.:

umpiring,acting,debating,performing,cooking,building,caringforothers,givepracticalhelp,improvinganother’ssituation,coachingyoungplayers,assistingteachers,etc).CASisnottakingplacewhenthestudentsisinapassiveratherthananactiverolesuchasdoingdiplomasubjectwork,butteringbread,travellingtoavenue,photocopyingandfillinglibrarybooks.Thereshouldbeinteraction.

CASRECORDKEEPING

YouwillberequiredtokeepaCASHandbookandtohaveitverifiedbyyouradultleadersoftheclubsandprojects.MakesuretofillthisinandhaveitsignedbytheadultleadereverysingletimeyoudoaCASactivity.YourDiaryshouldbeaplacefordescriptionofandself‐reflectiononyouractivities.

TIMING

TheCASprogramwillstartinSeptemberatthebeginningofDP1yearandfinishinMarchofDP2year.(Itispossibleforstudentstocontinuewiththeirownarrangementsduringtheholidays.)HoweverifallcriteriahavebeenmetsomestudentsmayfinishattheendofTerm1ofDP2year.Whenyouhavecompletedyourprogram,youwillhavetosubmitafinalsummativereport.ThiswillneedtobecompletedbytheendofFebruaryinDp2)

MONITORING

Allyouractivitieswillbemonitoredbyanadult,whomaybeyouradultleader,asupervisororinstructor,ateacher,oranotheradultwhoiswillingtoleadanactivityandisknowntotheschool,TheCAScoordinatorwillalsomonitorallactivitiesandwillmeetwithyouintutorialfrequently.

EVALUATION

SelfEvaluationhappensweeklyinyourCASDIARY.Itisveryimportantthatyouwriteregularself‐evaluationsasyouwillnotrememberthemwellenoughtowritean

effectiveevaluationofeveryactivityrightattheendoftheprogram.Youmayalsoliketorecordaspectsofyouractivitieswithphotographs,orvideosandtapesthisisyourwrittenevidenceforyourinvolvementandisveryimportant.Youmustgetallentriessignedbyyouradultleader.YourTutorwillcheckyourdiaryregularlyandtheCAScoordinatorwillcheckiteveryterm.

EvaluationbyadultLeaders:

AllyourCASactivitieswillbemonitoredbyanactivityleaderwhowillalsowriteanevaluationofyourperformance.Thiswillbebasedontheleader’spersonalknowledgeofyourparticipationintheactivity,andalsoonindividualandgroupdiscussionsorpresentations.Theadultleaderisgivenastrictselectionofperformancecriteriatorefertowhenwritingyourevaluation;

theymaybeseenontheCASnoticeboard.

SelfEvaluation:

Attheveryendoftheprogram,youwillproduceafinalself‐evaluationlookingbackoveryourwholeCASexperience.Thiswillalsohavetofocusontheaboveperformancecriteria.YouwillalsodoapracticeessayattheendofDP1.TheIBRegionalOfficerequeststoseesampleofsampleofstudents’completeCASrecordsbeforetheexamination.

AwrittenselfevaluationintheCASDiaryisrequiredfromstudentsforeachactivityundertaken,completedattheendoftheactivity.Thepurposeofthisistoencouragecriticalthinkingandmakestudentsawareoftheirownstrengthsandweaknesses.Youshouldlookbackovertheexperienceandassessit.Itshouldnotbeanarrativeofwhatwasdone.Theevaluationsshouldshowthatyouhaveconsideredthefollowingperformancecriteria.

Learningoutcomes

AsaresultoftheirCASexperienceasawhole,includingtheirreflections,thereshouldbeevidencethatstudentshave:

•increasedtheirawarenessoftheirownstrengthsandareasforgrowth
