TheREF542plusMultifunctionProtectionandSwitchbayControlUnitisthefurtherdevelopmentoftheformerREF542unit.Likeitspredecessor,itfeaturesthefollowingfunctions:

Allfunctionsmentionedaboveandpowerqualityfunctionsareintegratedinaprogrammableenvironment.Theexceptionalflexibilityandscalabilityofthesenewgenerationdevicesleadtoasmartandcleansolutionwherethetraditionalapproachwouldbeineffectiveandexpensive.

ThefollowingfiguresshowexamplesoftheREF542plusinstallationinseveralswitchboards.

TheREF542plusisbasedonareal-timemicroprocessorsystem.ThemeasurementandprotectionfunctionsareexecutedbyaDigitalSignalProcessor(DSP,whileaMicro

REF542plus,asshowninfigure3,consistsoftwoparts,aCentralUnitandaseparateHumanMachineInterface(HMI.TheCentralUnitcontainsthepowersupply,processorandanalogandbinaryInputandOutput(I/Omodules,aswellasoptionalmodulesforsupplementaryfunctions.

TheHMIControlUnitisastand-aloneunitwithitsownpowersupply.ItcanbeinstalledontheLowVoltage(LVcompartmentdoororinadedicatedcompartmentclosetotheCentralUnit.TheHMIisnormallyusedtosettheprotectionparametersandtolocallyoperatetheswitchingdevicesintheswitchbay.TheHMIisconnectedtotheCentralUnitbyashielded,isolatedtwistedpairaccordingtotheRS485interface.Figure4showsaninstallationoftheCentralUnitandtheHMIControlUnitintheLVcompartmentofaswitchboardfortheswitchbay.

TheHMIControlUnit,asshowninfigure5,featuresaback-illuminatedLiquidCrystal

Display(LCD,eightpushbuttons,severalLEDsandanelectronickeyinterface.Thelanguageofthedisplaycanbeselectedviatherelatedconfigurationsoftwaretool,whichisalsousedtodefinetheprotectionandthecontrolscheme.

ThelefthalfoftheLCDdisplayisreservedfortheSingleLinediagram.Therighthalfisusedtodisplaytheappropriatemenuorsubmenuasdeterminedbytheuser.Twodifferentelectronickeyswithdifferentaccessrightsareavailable.Eachofthekeysareprogrammedtopermiteither:

ThreefreelyprogrammableLEDbarshavebeenprovidedonthefrontoftheHMIControlUnit.EachLEDbarconsistsoftengreenandtworedLEDsandisuserconfigurabletodisplayanyrequiredmeasurementvalue.TheredLEDsareusedtoindicatevaluesabovetheratedvalue.

ThefunctionsoftheREF542pluscanbetailoredtothesystemrequirementsviaauser-specificconfiguration.Theuser-specificconfigurationisloadedduringcommissioning.Forthatpurposetheconfigurationcomputer,normallyapersonalcomputer(notebookrunningWindowsNT,isconnectedtotheopticalinterfaceonthefrontsideoftheHMIControlUnit.

TheinterfaceofthemultifunctionalunitREF542plustotheMediumVoltage(MVprimaryprocessisasfollows:

REF542plusisacertifiedproductforcompliancetotheIndustrialITarchitectureconceptofABB.

IndustrialITproductscanbeeffectivelycombinedtogetherintovalue-addedsystemsandsolutionsina“Plug&

Produce”manner.

Complianceaccordingto“Level0:

Information”ensuresthatallrelevantproductdocumentation–includingtheoperationmanual,instructionsforinstallationandmaintenance,electricalandmechanicaldrawings,testreportsandspecificorderinformation-isonlineavailable,inelectronicformat,foraccessviasoftwareproductsandsystemsbasedontheABBAspectIntegratorPlatform.

Inthisway,significantbenefitsareenabledtothefinaluserformucheasierandeffectiveinstallation,configuration,operationandmaintenanceoftheproductintheplant.DetailedinformationonIndustrialITisavailableatit

2Functions

REF542plusMultifunctionProtectionandSwitchbayControlUnitintegratesallthe

secondaryfunctionsinasingleunit.Thismultifunctionalunitalsofeaturesaself-

monitoringfunction.Allfunctionsaredesignedasfreelyconfigurablesoftwaremodules.

Therefore,awiderangeofoperationrequirementsinMVstationscanbemetwithoutanyproblems.TheversatilityofthesoftwaremakesitpossibletousetheREF542plusoneveryswitchboardindependentonthespecificapplicationrequired.

2.1Configuration

Eachapplicationforprotectionandcontrolcaneasilybeconfiguredbysoftwarefunctionmodules,whichmakearbitrarydefinitionofthefollowingfeaturesaspartofthesecondarysystempossible:

FUnctionalblockProgrammingLanguage”(FUPLAtheREF542plusMultifunctionProtectionandSwitchbayControlUnitoffersengineers,especiallythosewhoarenotsoftwareexperts,theopportunityofeasilyupdatingtheoperationandhandlingoftheswitchbay.

WithREF542plustheuserhasthebenefitofasecondarysystemthatisfullyintegratedin

atrueprogrammablecontroller.Thisflexibilityisveryadvantageousfordefiningcontrol

functionsforautomationsequences,whichcan,forexample,includetheinterlockingoftheswitchingdevices,blockingthereleaseofspecificprotectionfunctions,aswellasstartingswitchingsequences.
