Recently,researchersattheUniversityofCaliforniadecidedtotestthetwotheoriesbytakingpicturesof45dogsseparatelyfromtheirowners.Thentheyaskedsomestudentstomatchthedogs’photoswiththeirowners.Thestudentswerequitesuccessfulwithpurebred（纯种的）dogs:

theycorrectlymatched16outof25withtheirowners.However,theyhadalmostnosuccessconnectingmixed-breed（杂交的）dogswiththeirowners.Whenownersselectapurebreddog,theycaneasilypredict（预测）whatitwilllooklikelater.Butthatisnottruewithmixed-breeddogsbecauseit'

shardtopredictwhatamixed-breeddogwilllooklikewhenitgrowsup.Andsinceitwasthepurebredsnotthemixed-breedsthatlookedliketheirowners,theresearchseemstoprovethe“selectiontheory”.
