Recently,researchersattheUniversityofCaliforniadecidedtotestthetwotheoriesbytakingpicturesof45dogsseparatelyfromtheirowners.Thentheyaskedsomestudentstomatchthedogs’photoswiththeirowners.Thestudentswerequitesuccessfulwithpurebred(纯种的)dogs:

theycorrectlymatched16outof25withtheirowners.However,theyhadalmostnosuccessconnectingmixed-breed(杂交的)dogswiththeirowners.Whenownersselectapurebreddog,theycaneasilypredict(预测)whatitwilllooklikelater.Butthatisnottruewithmixed-breeddogsbecauseit'
