spendingmuchtimeoutinthewilderness,itisquitecommontogetminorinjuries.Becauseofhiscondition,Adamhashad
tomisssomeScoutingactivitiesovertheyears.
ThefirstfewdaysofAdam'
sbackpackinginPhilmontwentsmooth.Butonthe3rdday,whileunloadinghisgear
ataremotecampsite,hefeltasharppaininhisback.Adamtoldtheadultleadersabouthisbackandthathewasstartingto
notfeelwell.TheymadethedecisiontocallPhilmontbasecamptoseekmedicalattention.
Itwasgettingdarkandrainthreatened.Twodoctorssetoutintothenightonbackcountryroadsandthenhikedin
thelast1/2miletofindAdam.Theydidsometestsanddecidedtotakehimbackwiththemtobasecamp.Itwasatough
