knowledgeobjects,abilityobjectsandmoralobjects.

  Teachingkeypointsincludethevocabularyandsomephrases,suchasargument/argue,dial,steal,notice,robbery,detail,railingholdout,inhandcuffs,beafraidof,goon,shoutat,stareat,andrunaway.ToimproveSs’readingskillsandencouragethemtotalkabouttroublestheymetintheirdailylifeareanotherteahingkeypoints.

  Whiletheteachingdifficultpointsaretoretellthestorywiththehelpofsomekeywords,towriteadairywiththesimplepasttense.

  ThepurposeofshowingpicturesisthatarouseSs’imaginationtodealwiththetroubleswhentheyseesomeonearedrowning,trappinginfireandbeingrobbed.TheSswillgetexcitedtotalkwiththeirpartnersinEnglish.Therefore,thetopicofthislessonisnaturallyledinbydiscussing.

  Step2:

pre-reading

  Inthisstep,IfirstaskSsseethetitle,subtitleandthephotoesonthebookandthenletthemdiscussingroupsinordertotrytoguesstheanswersofquestionsinB1andB2.Next,IasktheSstolistentotherecordtotrytograspthegeneralideaofthepassage.

  Thepurposeofthisdesignistotrainthespeakingandlisteningabilitiesofstudents.Thisalsocanbefeedbacktocheckotherstudentswhethertheygraspthegeneralideaofthepassage.

  Step3:

while-reading

  Imainlyusetask-basedmethodtohelptheSsimprovetheirreadingskillsinthisstep.

  Task1.ScanningforthequestionsinB2

  Finishthosequestionsusingscanningstrategy.Thatistosay,youmustletyoureyes“scan”thetextquicklytofinddetailsthatyouarelookingfor,youcanfindinformationquicklywithoutreadingthewholetext.Thisactivityprovidespracticein“scanning”.Readoutthereadingstrategyforthisunit.Explainitinmoredetailsandmakesurestudentsunderstandthedifferencebetween“readingformeaning”and“readingfordetail”.LetSsdoarace.Encouragethemfinishthesequestionsasquicklyastheycan.Sswhodoagoodjobwillgetastarforhisgroup.

  Task2.Readthepassagecarefullyanddotrueorfalseexercisesonthescreen.

  ThegoalofthistaskistoletSsgetfurtherunderstandingofthearticleandchecktheirreadingresultsandthedeploymentofthereadingstrategies.

  Task3.Findoutthenewwordsandphrases.Letthemguessfromthecontext.
