Theinformationsetforthinthesepublicationsisprovidedtousersfortheirconsiderationanddecisiontoimplement.ThisisofparticularimportancewhereDEPsmaynotcovereveryrequirementordiversityofconditionateachlocality.ThesystemofDEPsisexpectedtobesufficientlyflexibletoallowindividualoperatingcompaniestoadapttheinformationsetforthinDEPstotheirownenvironmentandrequirements.

TherighttouseDEPsisgrantedbyShellGSI,SIEPorSIC,inmostcasesunderServiceAgreementsprimarilywithcompaniesoftheRoyalDutch/ShellGroupandothercompaniesreceivingtechnicaladviceandservicesfromShell 

GSI,SIEP,SICoranotherGroupServiceCompany.Consequently,threecategoriesofusersofDEPscanbedistinguished:

1）OperatingcompanieshavingaServiceAgreementwithShellGSI,SIEP,SICorotherServiceCompany.TheuseofDEPsbytheseoperatingcompaniesissubjectinallrespectstothetermsandconditionsoftherelevantServiceAgreement.

2）OtherpartieswhoareauthorizedtouseDEPssubjecttoappropriatecontractualarrangements（whetheraspartofaServiceAgreementorotherwise）.

3）Contractors/subcontractorsandManufacturers/Suppliersunderacontractwithusersreferredtounder1）or2）whichrequiresthattendersforprojects,materialssuppliedor-generally-workperformedonbehalfofthesaiduserscomplywiththerelevantstandards.

Subjecttoanyparticulartermsandconditionsasmaybesetforthinspecificagreementswithusers,ShellGSI,SIEPandSICdisclaimanyliabilityofwhatsoevernatureforanydamage（includinginjuryordeath）sufferedbyanycompanyorpersonwhomsoeverasaresultoforinconnectionwiththeuse,applicationorimplementationofanyDEP,combinationofDEPsoranypartthereof,evenifitiswhollyorpartlycausedbynegligenceonthepartofShellGSI,SIEPorotherServiceCompany.ThebenefitofthisdisclaimershallinureinallrespectstoShellGSI,SIEP,SICand/oranycompanyaffiliatedtothesecompaniesthatmayissueDEPsorrequiretheuseofDEPs.

1.3DEFINITIONS

1.3.1Generaldefinitions

TheContractoristhepartywhichcarriesoutallorpartofthedesign,engineering,procurement,installation,andcommissioningormanagementofaprojectoroperationormaintenanceofafacility.ThePrincipalmaysometimesundertakeallorpartofthedutiesoftheContractor.

TheManufacturer/SupplieristhepartywhichmanufacturesorsuppliesequipmentandservicestoperformthedutiesspecifiedbytheContractor.

ThePrincipalisthepartywhichinitiatestheprojectandultimatelypaysforitsdesignandconstruction.ThePrincipalwillgenerallyspecifythetechnicalrequirements.ThePrincipalmayalsoincludeanagentorconsultant,authorisedtoactforthePrincipal.

1.3.2SpecificDefinitions

AnodeManufacturer/Supplier-themanufacturer/supplierofsacrificialanodesandrelatedmaterials

CathodicprotectiondesignContractor-thepartyresponsibleforthedesignofthecathodicprotectionsystemandultimatelyresponsibleforthefunctioningofthecathodicprotectionsystem.

CathodicprotectioninstallationContractor-thepartyresponsiblefortheinstallationofthecathodicprotectionsysteminaccordancewiththedesignandwiththisDEP.

Coatingbreakdownfactor-theratiobetweenthesurfaceareaofexposedmetalduetocoatingbreakdownandthetotalsurfaceareaunderconsideration.Thefactorisusedtodeterminetheaveragecurrentdensityoncoatedmetalfromcurrentdensitiescomparedwiththatforbaresteel.
