Classificationofeuthanasia

Euthanasiamaybeclassifiedaccordingtowhetherapersongivesinformedconsentintothreetypes:

voluntary,non-voluntaryandinvoluntary.[20][21]

Thereisadebatewithinthemedicalandbioethicsliteratureaboutwhetherornotthenon-voluntary(andbyextension,involuntary)killingofpatientscanberegardedaseuthanasia,irrespectiveofintentorthepatient'

scircumstances.InthedefinitionsofferedbyBeauchamp&

Davidsonand,later,byWreen,consentonthepartofthepatientwasnotconsideredtobeoneoftheircriteria,althoughitmayhavebeenrequiredtojustifyeuthanasia.[8][22]However,othersseeconsentasessential.
