Thecelebritiesstudentsaspiredtobemostlike,thesurveysaid,wereDavidandVictoriaBeckham,arguablyBritain’smostfamouscouple,Soccerplayer“Becks”toppedthepoll,withmorethanhalftheteacherssayingtheirstudentsmodeledthemselvesonthe32year-old.Inthesecondplace,withalmostathirdofthepoll’svote,washis33year-oldwifeandpopstar“Posh”.

Inaneraofrealitytelevision“Stars”,amajorityofteacherssaidcelebrityculturenegativelyimpactedtheaspirationsoftheirpupils.Almosthalfofthe300teacherspolledsaidpupilstriedtolooklikeorbehavelikecelebritiestheymostadmired,fuellingfearsthatgirlsparticularlydressedin“unsuitable”styles.

“Wearenotsurprisedaboutinfiltration(渗透)ofcelebritycultureinschools—itreflectsthecurrentmediaobsessionwithcelebrityandtheeffectofcelebritycultureonsocietyasawhole,”ATLgeneralsecretaryMaryBoustedsaidinastatement.“Celebritiescanhaveapositiveeffectonpupils.Theycanraisepupils’aspirationsandambitionsforthefuture.However,celebrityculturecanperpetuate(使不朽)thethoughtthatcelebritystatusisthegreatestachievementandreinforcesthebeliefthatothercareeroptionsarenotvaluable.”
