Shanghaiisthelargesteconomiccityofourcountry,thebusycitytrafficistherepresentationofthecityvigor,butitbringstheproblemtocitytooatthesametime.SolvingthecitytrafficprobleminShanghaiinordertomeettheneedsofcitydevelopmenthasalwaysbeenagreatsubjectinfrontofpeopleinShanghai.TorevitalizeShanghai,developPudong,servethewholecountry,gototheworld,buildShanghaiintotheinternationalcityofsocialistmodernizationwithhighcivilization,allthesethingswillputforwardhigherrequestforthecitytrafficofShanghai.ThetrafficsituationofShanghaifacestheseverechallengeandtheunprecedentedopportunityfordevelopmentaswell.Itisaseveresubjectinfrontofustoacceleratetheconstructionoftrafficandchangethetrafficappearance,itistheurgenthopeofthepeopleinShanghaitoo.Forthisreason,themunicipalgovernmenthasalreadyconsideredimprovingthetrafficsituationasoneofthemostprimarytasksofurbanconstruction.

 

2.Infrastructureconstructionofthetraffic:

Duringtheseyears,themunicipalgovernmenthasinvestedhugeamountsofmoneyonbuildingtrafficfacilities.Thesefacilitieshavenotonlyrelievedthebadstateoftrafficjamgreatlybutalsomakethewholeurbanhaveaimageofmodernizationevenmore.Themostrepresentativeonesareasfollows:

YangpuBridgewentintooperationin1991.ItwasopentothetrafficinSeptemberof1993.ThenorthofthebridgemeetsNingGuoRd.,HuangXingRd.,anditlinkswithoverheadwayofinnerloop-line.ThesouthconnectsLuoShanRd.,linkingwiththemainroadofPudong.Thebridgehasthetotallength7658meters,thenetheightof48metersforshipstopass.Thetotallengthofthemainbridgeis1172metersanditisthelongestcable-staybridgeofthesametypeoftheworldatthattime.Thefloorofmainstructureofabridgesetsup6flexiblelanesforcarsandthepavementforsightseeingonbothsides,thebridgeflooris30.35meterswide.

styleofhighwayscommitsthethree-dimensionaltrafficnetworkofShanghai,thusalleviatedthecontradictionofthetrafficofurbanarea.Afterthisprojectwasbuiltup,thepassingspeedofroadvehicleinurbanareaincreasedto30to40kilometersperhourfromoriginal7to15kilometersperhour,theareathatisoccupiedbyonepersonforaveragerisesto7.53squaremetersfrom2.1sq.km.andtheyhaveundertakenthemajorityoftheflowofnewly-increasedcar.Theimplementationofthisprojectplaysaextremelyimportantroleinthereconstructionoftheolddistrict,improvementoftheurbanenvironment,incrementofgreencoverageandinfrastructureinbothsidesoftheroad. 

3.Thecurrentsituationofthetrafficandtheexistingproblems:

Shanghaiisamegalopoliswithveryintensivepopulationandindustry.Inaverageeachsq.km.thereexceeds40,000peoplewithinmorethan90sq.km.inthecenterdistrict.Buttheareaofpercapitaroadisonly2squaremeters.Thereisonly1/2to1/3ofdomesticsimilarcities,1/5tooneinmorethantensoftheforeignsimilarcities.Thoughtheproblemsofpopulationcanberelievedtosomeextentinthefuture,thetertiaryindustrywillgetverygreatdevelopment.Thus,thesituationthattoomanypeoplewithtoolittleroadscannotbeeasilychanged,sothisisabasicpointofdepartureofissuetoconsiderShanghaitraffic.

Withthedevelopmentofeconomy,vehicleincreasequickly.TheRoadtrafficloadofShanghaihasalreadybeenintheultrasaturatedconditiononthewhole.Thoughitismanagefactorssuchasnon-trafficoccupyingthewayaggravatethecontradictionofroadtrafficgreatly,theultrasaturatedconditionofthiskindoftrafficcannotbesolvedbytakingusualmeasures.Andwithreformandopening-upandthedevelopmentofthecity,thiskindofcontradictionwillalsobeaggravatedrapidly.SoShanghaimustconcentratestrengthonacceleratingtheconstructionoftraffic.Duringaspecifiedperiodoftime,weshouldregardsolvingthecitytrafficproblemasthefocalpointoftheurbanconstructionworkingwithperseverance.

Severalcausestotrafficjam

1.Theurbantraffictrendstowardsthesaturation,therateofincreaseoftheroadofShanghaifarlagsbehindrateofincreaseofthecar.

Municipalinfrastructureconstructionisoriginallyagoodthingofalleviatingthetraffic,butinthecourseofconstructing,itunavoidablyinfluencethelocaltraffic.Someroadsectionsareblocked,somechangeintoanone-waylane,thusthevehiclecanonlytakeadeviousroute.Theconstructionmakestheroadverynarrow,formingthebottleneck,whichseriouslyinfluencethecarflow.ThemostobviousexampleistheHuMinhighway.ThishighwayunderconstructionisextendedfromXinLongHuatoXingZhuangpassingbyJinJiangPark.Thegroundroadsectionofthisrouteishelpupverymuch,especiallyinpeakperiod.Astothis,citizensshouldunderstand,andshouldexpectthatthissituationwillbeimprovedgreatlyinthenearfuture.

3.Thetrafficparticipants’qualityisnothighenough,causingcarstoppingupartificially.

ThoughthequalityofcitizensinShanghaihasalreadygenerallybeenimprovedinrecentyears,stillsomephenomenanotcivilizedtakeplace.Forexample:

Crossroadsrandomly,crossovertheisolatingfenceorthebicycleoccupiesautomobilelane,etcinviolationofthetrafficrulesandregulations.Thesephenomenaareveryapttocausethetrafficaccident.Eventhereisnotrafficaccident,motorvehiclemustslowdownspeedinordertoavoidtheemergenceofdangeroussituation.Inthisway,thespeedofthewagonflowhasbeeninfluenced.Anotherexampleisthat:
