B.SuchquestionshavebecomedecisivetothefutureofpubliceducationintheUnitedStates,thenationfacesashortageofteachingtalent.About3.2millionpeopleteachinU.S.publicschools,but,accordingtoareportmadebyeconomistWilliamHussar,thenationwillneedtoemploy2.8millionpeopleoverthenexteightyears.Findingandkeepinghigh-qualityteachersarekeytoAmerica’spowerasanation.RecenttestthatresultsshowU.S.10th-gradersrankedjust17thamong30nationsinscience,whileinmaththeyplacedinthebottomfive.Researchsuggeststhatagoodteacheristhesinglekeyfactorinboostingperformance,moreimportantthanclasssize,thedollarsspentperstudentorthequalityoftextbooksandmaterials.
