Theofficerinchargeofthenavigationalwatchshall:
A.1)keepthewatchonthebridge.2)nnocircumstancesleavethebridgeuntilproperlyrelieved3)continuetoberesponsibleforthesafenavigationoftheship,despitethepresenceofthemasteronthebridge,untilinformedspecificallythatthemasterhasassumedthatresponsibilityandthisismutuallyunderstood.4)notifythemasterwheninanydoubtastowhatactiontotakeintheinterestofsafety.
B.Duringthewatchthecoursesteered,positionandspeedshallbecheckedatsufficientlyfrequentintervals,usinganyavailablenavigationalaidsnecessary,toensurethattheshipfollowstheplanedcourse.
C.Theofficeronwatchshallhavefullknowledgeofthesafetyandnavigationalequipmentonboardandmakeeffectiveuseofthem.Aproperlookoutandsecuritywatchshallbekeptandarecordshallbemaintained.
2.Describethebridgeshiftchange.
A.Theofficeronwatchshallnothandoverthewatchtotherelievingofficerifthereisreasontobelievethatthelatterisnotcapableofcarryingoutthewatch-keepingdutieseffectively,inwhichcasethemastershallbenotified;
therelievedofficershallensuretherelievingofficerisfullycapableofperformingtheduty,particularlyasregardstheiradjustmenttonightvision;
therelivingofficershallnottakeoverthewatchuntilhisvisionisfullyadjustedtothelightcondition.
B.Priortotakingoverthewatchrelievingofficersshallsatisfythemselvesastotheship’sestimatedortruepositionandconfirmitsintendedtrack,courseandspeed,andUMScontrolsasappropriateandshallnoteanydangerstonavigationexpectedtobeencounteredduringtheirwatch.
C.Ifatanytimetheofficerinchargeofbridgewatchistoberelievedwhenamanoeuvreorotheractiontoavoidanyhazardistakingplace,thereliefofthatofficershallbedeferreduntilsuchactionhasbeencompleted.
3.Describethedifferencesbetweennavigatinginanarrowchannelandinatrafficseparationscheme.
A.Avesselproceedingalongthecourseofanarrowchannelshallkeepasneartotheouterlimitofthechannelwhichliesonherstarboardsideasissafeandpracticable.
