1.BASICDEFINITIONSINSABER
1.1Symbols:
Symbolsareschematicrepresentationoftheapplicationslikelamps,ecus,groundpointsswitchesetc.Symbolshaveportswherethewiresgetattached.Theyhavedifferentviewswhichcanbeshared.(Discussedlater).Eachsymbolhasashellassociatedwithit.ThepropertyShell_Aofthesymboldeterminestheconnectormatingwiththeapplicationandcomingontheharnessside.
1.2ConnectorSymbols:
Theserepresenttheconnector.Thesesymbolscontainonlyportdetailsoftheconnectori.e.theNumberofportsandtheportnameasshown.Thesesymbolsarelinkedtothesaberconnectordatabaseinthesitemanagerdiscussedlater.
1.3Wires:
Wiresinsaberarephysicalwiresconnectingtwodifferentportsoraspliceandasymbolport.PropertieslikeColor,Specifications,wiretype,conductorpropertiescanbeassignedtothewires.(Discussedlater).
1.4Cable:
Acableinsaberiscollectionofphysicalwiresgroupedtogetherandsheathedbyanouterwrapping.Acablecanincludeothersubcables.Cablesaredefinedinpartsdatabase(Discussedlater).
1.5Splice:
Splicerepresentsphysicaljunctionorconnectionbetweentwoormorewires.Likesymbols,splicealsocanbeshared.
1.6Shell:
Shellisthepropertyofthecomponentsymbol.Itisthecomponentmountedconnector.
Itistheconnectorinsidethecomponentwhichreceivestheconnectorontheharnessside.
1.7Connector:
Connectorinsaberisthephysicalconnectorwhichwouldcomeintheharnessside.
1.8InlineConnector:
ItisasinglePlugandSocketpair.Usuallyusedtorepresentinterconnectionsbetweentwoharnesses.Inlineconnectorsareconnectedintoshelltomakeupaconnectorblock.(Discussedlater)
1.9Terminal:
Itisametalconductorattachedtotheendofthewireandinsertedintotheconnector/Shellcavity.TerminalsmaybemaleorFemale.
1.10Cavity:
Itisaplaceholderontheshell/Connectorthatcontainseitheraterminaloraseal.
1.11Passives:
Saberharnessusesthistermforanythingthatdoesn'
thavedirectsimulationbehaviour.Theseincludetapemarkings,Grommetsandthehardwareassociatedwiththeconnectorshell.Theseareincludeinthepartsdatabase.
1.12Variants:
Variantsandassemblynumbersarewaysoforganizingsothatmanufacturinginformationcanbeeasilyextractedfromthedesigns.Severalwireharnessdesignssharemanycommonelementsamongthemselves.SaberHarnessallowstotreatcommonelementsasabasedesignsothatthecommonsetplusadditionstoitcancompriseadifferentdesign,calledavariant.

Anassemblyisauniquecombinationofvariantsfromwithinaharness.Anassemblynumberisequivalenttoapartnumber.Anassemblynumberwillbeassignedtoacompleteharnessmadeupofwires,splices,connectorsandpossiblycomponents.

Saberharnesssupportsvariables,suchasawirelength,whichmaybeusedtocreateuniqueassemblynumbers.Fore.g.,twoharnessdesignsmaybeidenticalineveryrespectexceptthatinoneoptionawireislongerthantheotheroption.Inthiscaseavariableisusedwhichcanbesetaccordingtothearticlenumberbeingcreated.Thiswouldbemoreclearintheexampleexplainedlater.

∙Openasheet,Selectasimilarsymbolfromthepartsgalleryandplaceitonthesheet.
∙Selectthesymbol,rightclickandselectsymboleditor.
∙TheSymbolwillbedisplayedinanewwindow.Herethesymbolcanbeedited.
∙SelectFile/SaveasoptionandbrowsetoW:
/new_symbolsfolder.TypethedesirednameinnamewindowandSavethenewsymbolatthislocation.Thisisaveryimportantstep.Donoteditandsavethesymbolwithoutfollowingthisstepasitwillresultintheexistingsymbolinthepartsgallerytobeedited.
