Ⅱ.presentstatusofEnglishstudy
Inourcountry,somepeoplelearnEnglishinordertopassexamandgetdiaploma;
somewanttofindabetterjobaftergratuationtolearnEnglish;
somearefondofEnglish.differentpeoplehavediffferentpurposestolearnEnglish,actually,therealpurposeoflearningEnglishistouseitflexiblely.however,itisquitehardforustodothat,becausetheteachingmethodsaresostiff,andthestudymethodsaresoinflexible.SuchaslisteningintoEnglishclassesinhighschools,wherefindthesefollowingproblems.
Firstly,theatmosphereinclassistoomonotonous.Atthebeginningofclass,teaceherandstudentsjustgreetwithgoodmorning/afternoon,sometimes,thereisnogreeting.Teacherdoesnothavesomethinginterestingtoattractstudentsatthebeginningoftheclass.
Secondly,thecontentofteachingistooinsipidanddull.EnglishhasconventionallybeentaughtthroughtheGrammar-TranslationMethod(G-TM)underintenseexaminationpressure.IndeedtheG-TMcanprovidelearnerswithabasicknowledgeofEnglishgrammeraswellaswithsomeskillsinliteraltranslation.Orteacheronlyteachstudentslearnsomenewwords,thenreadthepassage,atlasttranslatethepassage.Thereisnoactivityintheclassteaching,forexample,pairwork,groupworkandrole-play.
Thirdly,thereisnooperationprocess.JustrememberingEnglishwordsanddoingexercisesisnotenough,ifyoudonotusewhatyouhaveleant,youwillforgetitquickly.Soafterclasss,thepracticesareveryimportant.
