Task:

Atpresentmanypeoplethinkthatonelanguageshouldbeusedasthecommonlanguage,butothersthinkthatbydoingsotheculturesofdifferentnationswillbelost.Whatdoyouthinkofthesetwoopinions?

Thesedays,thereareanincreasingnumberofscholarswhoholdtheopinionthat,withthedevelopmentofglobalization,weneedacommonlanguagetobespokenbyallthepeopleintheworld.Howeverotherscholarsareafraidthatthiswillweakenotherlanguagesandculturesatthesametime.Asforme,Iamnotinfavoroftheviewpointthatonelanguageshouldreplaceothersasthecommonone.

Inthefirstplace,nowadaysitisuniversallyacknowledgedthatlanguageisnotonlyatoolofcommunicationbutalsoakindofart.Eachlanguage,nomatterwhatkindoflanguageitis,hasitsuniquepronunciation,grammarandexpressions,whichcontributetothediversityoftheworld.So,ifthediverselanguagesarediminished,ourworldwillbecomelesscolorful.

Inthesecondplace,wecansaythatlanguageisapartofculture,andplaysaconsiderablyimportantroleinit.Indeed,somesocialscientistsconsideritthekeystoneofculture.Withoutlanguage,sotheargumentgoes,culturewouldnotbepossible.Ontheotherhand,languageisinfluencedandshapedbyculture;

itreflectsculture.Inthebroadestsense,languageisthesymbolicrepresentationofapeople,anditcomprisestheirhistoricalandculturalbackgroundsaswellastheirwaysoflivingandthinking.Culturesdifferfromoneanother,andeachcultureisunique.Thereisnodenyingthefactitwillbeadisasterforustoseetheworld’sdiverseculturesdisappearonebyone.
