Abstract:
ThispaperanalyzesthecurrentsituationandproblemsofcollegeEnglishteaching,reviewscollegeEnglishteachingmethodsathomeandabroad,andmainlyprobesthenatureofapproachesandmethodsinlanguageteachingandsomerepresentativestudiesinChina.Accordingtotheanalysis,aconclusionisdrawnthateachteachingmethodhasbothadvantagesanddisadvantages,andteachingmethodsshouldbeimprovedwiththedevelopmentofthesocietyandthestudents.Theremustbeteachinglawsinteachingactivities,butthereisn’tafixedteachingmethodtoeverystudent.Teachingmethodsshouldbechangedatanytimeifneeded.ThispaperalsopointsouttheimplicationsforcollegeEnglishclassroomteaching.TheauthorbelievesthatitisimportanttospeedupthereformofcollegeEnglishteachingandthestudyofteachingmethods,soastoestablishateachingmethodwithChinesecharacteristicstoguidecollegeEnglishteachingeffectively.Theauthorarguesthataninteractiveautonomouslearningmodelbasedonmultimedianetworkshouldbeadvocated.Itchangeslearningfromteacher-centeredtostudent-centered,makinglearningmoreactiveandautonomous.

CollegeEnglisheducationisnowundercontinuouseffortsandreforms,andourEnglishteachingreallyhasmadegreatachievements,buttherestillexistmanyproblems.InputsandoutputsarenotdirectlyproportionalincollegeEnglishteaching.WespendalotoftimeonEnglishlearning,butthelearningeffectisrelativelypoor.Thus,thereconsiderationandreevaluationoftheteachingmethodsemployedincollegeEnglishinstructionisurgentandvaluable.
A.TheproblemsofcollegeEnglishteaching
Inrecentyears,EnglishteachinginChinahasimprovedcontinuously,andtheteachingqualityhasenhancedunceasingly,butitisnotsatisfactoryinEnglishteachinginourcountryatpresentandtherestillexistthefollowingquestions:
First,thequalityofEnglishteachersneedstobeimproved.Atpresent,Englishteachers'
qualityandteachinglevelarenotoptimisticinourcountry.Especiallyinrecentyears,underthesituationofuniversityenrollmentexpansion,theconstructionofteachingqualityhasbeenabottle-necktofurtherdevelopmentofEnglishteaching.Teachers’qualityisnotveryhigh,whichismainlycausedbythefollowingfactors:
duetoheavyteachingtasks,theyhavenotimetoimprovetheirprofessionallevel;
teachers'
treatmentisnotwell,andtheycan'
tconcentratetheirattentiononteaching;
thelackofteachingequipmentandteachingmaterialisalsoanimportantreason.
Second,thelackoftheoryandexperiencesummaryisaproblem.Wehaveahistoryofmorethan100yearsofformalEnglisheducationinChina,andrichexperienceinEnglishteachingtheoryandteachingpracticehasbeenaccumulated,butthesetheoriesandexperiencehavefailedtosummarizeintime,improve,spreadandrisetoanewtheoreticalheight.
Third,thelackofcarefulstudyofEnglishteachingandlowapplicationinclassroominstructionarealsoproblems.ManyteachersignoredtocombinetherealityandthelawofEnglishteachinginChina.TheyseldommakeresearchonEnglishteaching,andthequalityofstudyonEnglishteachingisnotveryhigh.Eventhoughwemadesomeachievements,weseldomusethenewachievementsinteachingpractice.Ifwewanttomakegreaterprogress,weneedtomakemorevaluablestudiesandthencarrythemoutinteachingactivities.
Fourth,teachingmethodsarestilloutofdate.OurEnglishteachingisstillatraditionalpattern.Theinterpretationofthelinguisticknowledgeisstillinisolation,ratherthaninsentencesindiscourse.Wearetoexaminetheexistingteachingmethods.Atthesametime,wealsoneedtoactivelystudyandattempttoenrichtheexistingmethodsofEnglishteaching.Atpresent,intermsofEnglishteaching,wehavereachedabasicconsensus,thatis,touselearningasthecenterofteachingmethodtoreplacetheteacher-centeredteachingmethod.ButtheteachingmethodsuitableforChina’sforeignlanguageteachingisstillasubjecttostudy.
Finally,weareblindlyfollowingforeigntrendinEnglishteachingmethods.LookingatthehistoryofEnglishteachinginChina,wefindthatourChinesehavemorethanonceblindlyfollowedthetrend,makingEnglishteachinginapassiveandembarrassingsituation.Inordertogetridofthepassivesituation,andnottomakeChineseEnglishteachingbecomewestern'
sexperimentalfieldofteachingtheories,thekeyistoadheringtotheprincipleofpracticebeingmoreimportantthantheoryandthebasicprincipleofthestatebeingaboveallelse.Weneedtodoeverythingfromtheactualsituation,exploretheteachinglaw,andbuilddifferentteachingmodels.WeagreewiththeEnglishsyllabuswhichproposesthediversityofteachingmethods.Accordingtothedifferentteachingobjectives,teachingcontents,teachingpurposesandrequirements,weshouldchooseappropriateteachingmethods,andencourageteacherstoactivelyexplorenewteachingmethods,boldlyexploreandsetupadiversifiedmulti-levelteachingmodelbasedonChinesehistoryandreality,whichissuitableforthedevelopmentofChineseteachingandstudents'
reality,andmeetsthedemandofthegreatrejuvenationoftheChinesenation.
B.Theimportanceofthestudy
Teachingmethod,tosomeextent,relatestothesuccessofteaching.CollegeEnglishteachingmethodplaysagreatroleinguidingcollegeEnglishteaching,providingtheoreticalguidanceforcollegeEnglishteachingactivities,makingthecollegeEnglishteachingobtaingreaterdevelopment,andguidingourcountry'
scollegeEnglishteachingpractice.Atthesametime,itimprovestheteachingqualityofcollegeEnglishteachers,providesconvenienceforteacherstobetterimplementtheteachingwork,andhelpsteacherstosummarizetheteachingexperience,improvingteachingqualityandimplementingquality-orientededucationeffectively.Besides,effectiveteachingmethodscancreateagoodclassroomatmosphere,makestudentsexcitedinlearning,cultivatestudents'
abilityofinitiative,independenceandcreativity,anddevelopstudents'
intelligence.Teachers’teachingmethodinfluencesstudent'
slearningmethod,soscientificteachingmethodplaysanimportantroleintheformationofstudents'
personality.

Inthispart,theauthorwillbrieflyreviewcollegeEnglishteachingmethodsathomeandabroad,andmainlyprobesthenatureofapproachesandmethodsinlanguageteachingandsomerepresentativestudiesinChina.
A.RetrospectofcollegeEnglishteachingmethods
1.CollegeEnglishteachingmethodsinChina
SincethebirthofmodernEnglishinthe17thcentury,thediscussionaboutteachingmethods,reformandresearchhavebeendiscussedinfullswing.Theteachingmethodspresentacomprehensivedevelopmentfromsingletomultiple,fromseparatetointegrated,whicheffectivelypromotestheEnglishteachingpracticeandgreatlyenrichestheEnglishteachingtheory.Uptonow,therehaveappearedavarietyofEnglishteachingmethods,suchasgrammartranslationmethod,directmethod,theaudiolingualmethod,audio-visualmethod,cognitivemethod,situationalmethod,totalphysicalresponsemethod,thesilentway,thesuggestopedia,thenaturalteachingmethod,mechanicalreactionmethod,wholelanguage,multipleintelligences,neurolinguisticprogramming,thelexicalapproach,competency-basedlanguageteaching,communicativelanguageteaching,thenatureapproach,cooperativelanguagelearning,content-basedinstructionandtask-basedlanguageteaching.ThesemethodsnotonlyhaveexertedagreatinfluenceondifferentperiodsofEnglishteachinginChina,butalsohaveeffectivelypromotedthedevelopmentofthecauseofsocialistconstructionforward.
SinceChina'
sreformandopeningup,greatchangeshavetakenplaceinEnglishteachinginChina.ThetraditionalgrammartranslationmethodhasruledthefieldofEnglishteachingforalongtime,butnowthesituationofunifyingthewholecountryisbroken.Somenewteachingmethodsareintroduced,andbroughtin,suchasthesuggestopedia,audio-visualmethodandsoon,broadeningourEnglishteachers'
horizonandbringingspringbreezetoEnglishteaching.TheEnglisheducatorsdevotedtotheEnglishteachingmethodreform,researchandpractice,andEnglishteachingtakesonanewlook.
