1.2ACPowerSupply
Powercableandconnectorrequirementsvarybetweencountries.Alwaysuseacablethat
conformstolocalregulations,terminatedinanIEC320connectorattheinstrumentend.
IfitisnecessarytofitasuitableACpowerplugtothepowercable,theusermustobservethe
followingcolourcodes:
Theusermustalsoensurethattheprotectivegroundleadwouldbethelasttobreakshouldthecablebesubjecttoexcessivestrain.
Iftheplugisfused,a3-ampfuseshouldbefitted.
IfthepowercableelectricalconnectiontotheACpowerplugisthroughscrewterminalsthen,toensurereliableconnections,anysoldertinningofthecablewiresmustberemovedbefore
fittingtheplug.
Beforeswitchingontheequipment,ensurethatitissettothevoltageofthelocalACpower
supply.

Anyinterruptionoftheprotectivegroundconductorinsideoroutsidetheequipmentor
disconnectionoftheprotectivegroundterminalislikelytomaketheequipmentdangerous.

1.3Adjustment,MaintenanceandRepair
Theequipmentmustbedisconnectedfromallvoltagesourcesbeforeitisopenedforany
adjustment,replacement,maintenance,orrepair.
WhentheequipmentisconnectedtothelocalACpowersupply,internalterminalsmaybeliveandtheopeningofthecoversorremovalofparts(exceptthosetowhichaccesscanbegainedbyhand)islikelytoexposeliveparts.
Capacitorsinsidetheequipmentmaystillbechargedeveniftheequipmenthasbeen
disconnectedfromallvoltagesources.
Anyadjustment,maintenance,orrepairoftheopenedequipmentundervoltagemustbecarriedoutbyaskilledpersonwhoisawareofthehazardsinvolved.
Servicepersonnelshouldbetrainedagainstunexpectedhazards.
Ensurethatonlyfuseswiththerequiredratedcurrentandofthespecifiedtypeareusedfor
replacement.Theuseofmakeshiftfusesandshort-circuitingoffuseholdersisprohibited.
1.4StaticElectricity
Theunitsuppliedusesstatic-sensitivedevices.Servicepersonnelshouldbealertedto

Beforehandlingcircuitboardassembliescontainingthesecomponents,personnelshould
observethefollowingprecautions:
1)Theworksurfaceshouldbeaconductivegroundedmat.
2)Solderingironsmustbegroundedandtoolsmustbeincontactwithaconductivesurfaceto
groundwhennotinuse.
3)Anypersonhandlingstatic-sensitivepartsmustwearawriststrapwhichprovidesaleaky
pathtoground,impedancenotgreaterthan1MΩ.
4)Componentsorcircuitboardassembliesmustbestoredinoronconductivefoamormat
whileworkisinprogress.
5)Newcomponentsshouldbekeptinthesupplier’spackaginguntilrequiredforuse

The6815FseriesofWindingTestersprovideanon-destructivewaytotestwindingsusingahighvoltagepulseofbetween500Vand10kV.Bycomparingthedecaywaveformswithastandardwinding,deviationincorematerial,numberofturns,shortedturns,andinsulationbreakdowncanbeidentified.
Thetester’smeasurement,displayandcontrolfacilitiesinclude:

Thesupplyvoltagesettingcanbecheckedbylookingontherearpanelnexttothepowerinlet

requiredvoltage.Noadjustmentisrequiredforvariationofsupplyfrequency.

(H.V.)LEDwilllightwheneverahighvoltagepulseisappliedtothecomponentundertest.
ENSURETHATTHECOMPONENTUNDERTESTANDTESTLEAD
TERMINATIONSCANNOTBETOUCHEDDURINGTHETESTCYCLE.
TheHighVoltage(H.V.)outputisinhibiteduntilthesafetyinterlockcircuitiscomplete.The
terminalfixtureforthewindingundertestshouldbeplacedwithinahousingwithaninterlockeddoorcontrolledbyacircuitsuchasthatshowninFigure3-2.
Whenthefixturedoorisclosed,andthemicroswitchthereforemade,theHighVoltageoutputisactivatedviatherelay.TherelayalsoenergizesanACsupplyforasolenoidwhichcanbeusedtolockthedoorwhiletheHighVoltageoutputison.
