Parentsarehelpingtheirchildrenoutofgenuineconcern,andbecausetheydonotwanttoseethemstruggle.ButBecksaidthatparentswhomakesacrificestohelptheiradultchildrenshouldbecautiousabouttheirownfinances.
“Ifyouaretakingonextradebtordelayingretirementtohelpyouradultchild,youcouldbemakingamistakeandputtingyourownfinancialfutureindanger,”Beckwarned.
Boomerangchildrencanalsocauseotherproblemsfortheirparents.Thirtypercentofparentssaidtheyhadgivenupprivacysincetheiradultchildrenmovedbackhome,whilemorethanaquarterhavetakenonaddeddebt,andtenpercenthavedelayedretirement.Butthesurveyalsoshowedthat42percentofadultchildrenlivingathomearehelpingwiththecookingandcleaning.
