Probablynot.Doctorsthinkcervicalcanceriscausedbythetransmittedhumanpapillomavirus.TheDNAtestdetectsgeneticmaterialfrom13formsofit,whicharefoundin96percentswhohavecervicalcancer.Butmostyoungwomenwhohavepapillomavirusdon’tactuallydevelopcancer.Sothetestcancausefalsealarms.DNAtestscouldproveusefulforolderwomen,though.Mostwomenfightoffthevirusbeforetheyturn40.Iftheydon’t,they’remorelikelytogetcervicalcancer.Butthey’realsolesslikelytogetPapsmearsbecausemanystopvisitinggynecologistsafterchildbearingage,andthetestgetsmoreuncomfortable.Soaquick,self-collectedtestcouldcutcervicalcancerrates:
