Projectcontrolbeginswiththeidentificationoftheowner'
sobjectivesandendswhenthoseobjectiveshavebeenmet.Theowner,thedesigner,andtheconstructionprofessionaltogetherdesign,estimate,andscheduletheprojecttomeettheseobjectives.Thisisthebasisofthecontrolsystem.Onlargeorcomplicatedprojects,thecontroleffortisamajorundertakingwithmultipleorganizationsinvolved.
Thepurposeofprojectcontrolistoguaranteethattheproject'
sdesign,budget,andschedulearemetbytheprojectteam.Ifanyobjectivebeginstoslip,thecontrolsystemwillidentifythisdeviationearlysothattheappropriatecorrectioncanbemade.
Projectcontrolbeginswithaplanthatidentifiestheobjectivesoftheprojectandspecificcheckpointsthroughouttheprojectcycle.Theplanisaroadmapthatallowstheprojectteamtoconstantlymonitorandmakecorrectionsasnecessary.Itconsistsofdesigndocumentsforqualitychecks,anestimatethatestablishesbudgetrequirements,andascheduleforprojectmilestonedates.
