Whentheleafyplantsareinjured-byanimalseatingthem,peoplecuttingthem,oranyotherroughtreatment-theygiveoffGLVsintotheair.TheseGLVsareawarningtoneighbouringplantsthattheirflowersmightberemoved,sotheycanmoveresourceslikesugartowardtheirrootsandawayfromtheirflowers.Thisreducesaplant’spotentiallossesandcanhelpitgrowbacklater.

TherushofGLVsdoesafewotherthings,too.Onechemicalhelpstoclosethewoundonthedamagedplant.Othersactasantibiotics（抗生素）andpreventbacterialinfections.
