English-Chinesetranslationisaprocesswhichrequiresadetailedanalysisoftheoriginalsentencesinsuchaspectsasmeaning,structureandlogic,andwhich,asaresult,needsalongtimeofpracticetoperfect.However,translationismademoredifficultandcomplexbyfrequentappearanceoflongsentencesinthetwolanguages.Inthisessay,wediscusshowwecandevelopskillsinlongsentencetranslation.Whatisalongsentence?

Alongsentenceisonewithseveralattributives,subordinateandadverbialclauses,whichareinterdependentonandlinkedtoeachother.Longsentencesarecharacterizedbyfrequentuseofattributiveandadverbialclauses,compoundstructure,parenthesisanddanglingstructure.Besides,whatmakeslongsentencesdifficulttotranslateisthefactthatChineseandEnglishmenhavedifferentthinkinghabit,whichnaturallyleadstotheirdifferencesinwaysofexpressionandsentencestructure.Thus,theemphasisofthisessayisonacomparisonbetweenthestructuresofEnglishandChinesesentences.ReasonswhythisessayisonacomparisonbetweenthestructuresofEnglisharealsodiscussed,andthetypesofarticleswherelongsentencesfrequentlyappearareshowntothereaders.Thepriorityofthisessayisgiventothesteps,whichshouldbetaken,andthemethodstobeusedinlongsentencetranslationandviceversa.

2.ComparisonbetweenEnglishandChinesesentences
