Onaddressingyourprofessor
E-mailtoaprofessorshouldbetreatedlikeabusinessletter–atleastuntilyouknowthatprofessor'
spersonalpreferencesverywell.Althoughe-mailiswidelyregardedasaninformalmedium,itisinfactusedforbusinesspurposesinmanysettings(includingWellesleyCollege).Youwon'
terrifyouaretooformal,butthereisthepossibilityofcommittingmanygaffesifyouaretooinformal.

Keepmostmessagestounderascreeninlength;
lotsofreaderswillsimplydeferreadinglongmessages,andthenmaynevercomebacktothem.Ontheotherhand,averyshort,tersemessagemaysimplybemeaningless.Besuretoincludeenoughinformationsothatyourreadercanunderstandwhatyouarerequesting.Provideabitofbackgroundorcontextifnecessary.Stateyourrequestclearly.
