Abstract:
ChinglishreferstoakindofintermediarylanguageresultingfromthenegativetransferofChinesethinkingpatternandexpressinghabit.ItistheproblemthatcommonlyexistsinChinesepeople’slearningandusingEnglish.ItshouldbenotedthatChinglishisabnormalEnglishandisanobstacleininternationalcommunication.Thus,effortsshouldbemadetoseekthesourceofChinglishandgetridofthenegativeinfluence.ThispapermakesasystematicandthoroughdiscussiononChinglishfromtheaspectofnegativetransfer,conductingacontrastiveanalysisonthephonetic,lexical,syntacticalandpragmaticlevels.ThepaperalsoofferssomestrategiestoavoidorreduceChinglish,aimingtohelpthereadersrefinetheircommandofidiomaticEnglish.

ChinglishreferstotheimproperexpressionsthatChinesepeoplemakewhentheyexpresstheirideaseitherinoralorwrittenformofEnglish.AccordingtothedefinitionmadebyJoanPinkham,“Chinglish,ofcourse,isthatmisshapen,hybridlanguagethatisneitherEnglishnorChinesebutthatmightbedescribedas‘EnglishwithChinesecharacteristics’”
(1).Asaninterlanguage,itissystematic,withitsownfeatures,reflectingtheinterferenceofChineselanguagestructureandthoughtpattern.Itisacontinuum,inwhichthelearnersaremovingcloserandclosertothestateofanativespeaker,butneverreachit.
WiththepopularityofEnglishinChina,Chinglishcanbefoundeverywhere.ItisnotinfrequenttofindimproperexpressionsofEnglishinChinesestudents’writingandspeaking,intheircommunicationwithnativespeakersandinnumerouspublicsignsaroundus.Ofcourse,itisnaturalthatwhenusingEnglish,differentnationsmaymechanicallyfollowtherulesoftheirownlanguages.Inthissense,Chinglishisnotsomethingthatdeservestoomuchcriticismowingtopeople’slearningenvironmentandtradition.Nevertheless,such
