Myfistinterview

Foreverygraduate,interviewisanessentiallinkinjob-hunting.IntheyearwhenIwasabouttograduatefromtheuniversity,Iexperiencedseveralinterviewsandfinallyfoundasatisfactoryjob.However,thefirstinterviewfromwhichIlearntalotisextremelyunforgettable.

ItwasinNovemberwhentheuniversityheldthefirstconferenceforgraduates.MyclassmatesandIattendedtheconferencecarryingourresumes.ThereweremanyschoolswhichofferedtheteachingpostforEnglish.Aftercarefulthinking,IdeliveredmyresumetoateacherofZhuhaiMiddleSchool.Shelookedthroughmyresume,thensaid,“Well,ifweaskyoutointerview,we’llcontactwithyou.”Later,Ideliveredmyresumestootherschoolsbutnoonerepliedtomeonthespot.

Nextday,IreceivedaphonecallfromZhuhaiMiddleSchool.Theteacheraskedmetohaveaninterviewat2:

00afternoon.Iwasbothexcitedandnervous.Inordertomakeagoodimpressionontheemployers,Iworeaformalsuitthatday.IarrivedattheplacefortheinterviewontimewhenIfoundtherewereother9graduatesapplyingfortheEnglishteacherasIdid.

Aftertwentyminutes,someoneaskedmetoentertheclassroom.Istandedinfrontoftheblackboardandthreeteacherswereseatedinfrontofme.Ifeltabitnervous.Afterall,itwasmyfirstinterview.Oneofthemaskedmetowritemynameontheboardthenintroducemyself.Iwasmadeanfluentself-introductionbecauseoffullpreparation.Anotherteacheraskedmetointroducemyhometown.Itwasanunexpectedquestiontome.IwassonervousthatIdidn’tansweritverywell.Afterthat,Inearlylostmyheartandthoughttheinterviewwouldfail.ThelastquestionwashowIimprovestudents’writingability.Itriedmybesttoretrievetheloss.

Theresultdisappointedme.Ididn’tseizetheopportunity.AlthoughIlostthefirstjob,Ilearntalotfromtheinterview.NowIknowthatIshouldprepareinadvanceandduringtheinterviewIshouldbeself-confidentwhichisnecessary.AtthesametimeIshouldimprovetheabilityofadaptingmyselftochangingconditions.IfIdon’tgetthejob,Iwon’tbediscouragedanymorebecauseIthinkkeepingontryingisthekeytosuccess.

Procedure:

Step1:

Tellthestudentsabouttheactualprocedurepeoplegenerallyfollowwhenlookingforajob.

Whenpeoplelookforajob,theyusuallyfollowthefollowingprocedures:

1)Readthe“WantAds”inthenewspapersforsuitablevacancies.

2)Phoneorwrite,dependingontheinstructionsgiveninthead,thecontactperson.

3)Thecontactperson,eithertheemployerhimselforarepresentativeofhis,willadvisetheapplicantaboutthejobifithasnotyetbeentaken,andgranttheapplicantaninterviewifheorshechoosesto.Occasionallyaninterviewmaytakeplacebyphone,butmostoftenthecontactpersonwouldwanttoseetheapplicantorviceversa.

4)Ifaninterviewisgranted,theapplicantwillbeaskedmanyquestionsbothpersonalandprofessionalsothattheemployercandecidewhetherornottheapplicantissuitableforthejob.Theapplicantmayalsoaskquestionsasheorshe,too,mustmakesureaboutthesuitabilityofthejob.
