@#@Thesecylindersarecuredfor28daysandtestedbycompressionuntiltheyarecrushed.Thiswillgivethecontractorortheengineerthecompressivestrengthforthatbatchofconcrete.Heorshecanthencomparethatvaluetothedesignvalueusedtomakesurethatthestructurewasconstructedproperly.,MaterialsforCivilEngineering,Concrete:

@#@Oncetheconcretehasbeenplacedforaparticularstructure,thereisanondestructivetestwhichcanbeperformedtoestimatethestrengthoftheconcrete.ThismethodusesaSchmidthammer(alsocalledaSwisshammer).ThismethodoftestingisbasedontheinertiaofaballinsidetheSchmidthammertestingapparatusthatisbouncedoffoftheconcrete.,MaterialsforCivilEngineering,Concretetests:
