Afterthediscovery,Bertocchinicarriedouttimedexperiments(实验)ontheworms.When100wormswereplacedinanormalBritishplasticshoppingbag,theholesbegantoappearinjust40minutes.After12hours,shesawmuchoftheplasticbaghaddisappeared.

Plasticisnotthenaturalfoodforthewaxworms.Buttheresearcherssaythatsincetheylaytheireggsinbeehives,thewormsfeedonbeeswax.“Waxisakindof‘naturalplastic’,”Bertocchinisays.
