1.教师用下述语言引出本课内容:
Youprobablyknowthatinthe1960stherewasagreatmovementintheUnitedStates,whichwasknownastheCivil-rightsMovement.Manyblackpeoplefoughtfortheircivilrights.TheywereledbyMartinLutherKingJr.Laterwe’lllearnmoreabouthim.Nowwe’lllistentothedialogueandseewhathappenedtothespeakers.
2.准备放对话录音。
借助投影片打出以下听前提问:
1)Wheredidtheconversationtakeplace?
2)Wheredidthebigcivilrightsmarchtakeplace?
放录音一至两遍,请学生回答上述问题,教师予以必要订正。

将学生分为两人一组练习对话。

1)TherewasabigcivilrightsmarchthroughthecentreofBirmingham,becausetheblackpeopleofBirminghamwantedequalrights.Theyweremarchingpeacefullyalongandthenthepolicecameup.Thepolicetoldtheblackpeopletogohomebuttheywenton.Thepolicethensaidthatthemarchhadbeenforbidden,butthatwasn’ttrue.Laterthepolicehitthemwiththeirsticksandputsomeoftheblackpeopleinprison.
2)TheblackpeopleofBirminghamwantedthesamerightsasthewhitepeopleinthecity.Formanyyearstheyhadbeendemandingbetterhousingandjobs.Yettheywerenottreatedasequalcitizens.Theycouldn’tgotothepublicparksorswimmingpools.Itwasforbidden.
3)ThefirstspeakerwasastrangerhereinBirmingham.HewasfromtheWestCoast.HedidnotknowthatthesituationwasbadforblackpeopleinBirmingham.Nordidheknowthattheblackpeoplewerefightingfortheircivilrights.Thesecondspeakerwasablack.Hetookanactivepartinthecivilrightsmarch.Buthewasputinprisonbythepoliceandwasalsohitbythem.Hiswholebodyhurt.
