CoolEditisadigitalsoundeditorforWindows.Youmightthinkofitasapaintprogramforaudio--justasapaintprogramenablesyoutocreateimageswithcolors,brushstrokes,andavarietyofspecialeffects,CoolEditenablesyouto“paint”withsound:

tones,piecesofsongsandvoicesandmiscellaneousnoises,sinewavesandsawtoothwaves,pinknoise,whitenoise,andbrownnoise--evensilence.CoolEditalsogivesyouawidevarietyofspecialeffectsto“touchup”yoursounds:

reverberation,noisereduction,echoanddelay,flanging,filtering,andmanyothers.CoolEditisbothflexibleandpowerful.Itworkswithdozensofaudiofileformats,supportsfilesupto1gigabyteinsize,enablesyoutocustomizeanyfunctiontoachievejusttheeffectyouwantandthentostoreyoursettingsasa“preset”,andoffersscriptingandbatch-processingfeaturessothatyoucanautomateyoursound-processingroutines.

OverallDesign

CoolEditcurrentlyusestheSingleDocumentInterface（SDI）designparadigm.Thismeansthataninstanceoftheprogramoperatesonasinglecontinuouswaveform.This,however,innowaymeansyouhavetoworkononlyonewaveformatatime.MultiplecopiescanberunatoncebychoosingFile:

NewInstance.Usemultiplecopiestotemporarilystorewaveformsnippets（likehavingamultiplevisualclipboards）ortoworkwithmorethanasinglewaveformatatime.Sinceeachrunningcopyoftheprogramistotallyindependentoftheothers,youcanevenplaywaveformsandworkononecopywhiletheotherisbusycalculating.

WhileCoolEditiscalculating,mostofyourCPU'stimewillbeusedforthesecalculations,althoughyoucanstillrunotherWindowsapplicationsalbeitalittleslower.Ifinthemiddleofcalculatingalengthyoperationyouneedtheprocessorforanothertask,youcansuspend,orpausecalculationbypressingthePausebuttonintheprogressmeterdialog（orjustclickingontheblueprogressmeterinsomeversions）.
