ThisisanoverviewofthestoryofTheTinDrum,themostfamousworkbytheGermanNobel-winningauthorGunterGrass,whopassedawayonApril13attheageof87.TheTinDrumalsoestablishedGrassasoneoftheleadingauthorsofGermany.Italsosetahighbarofcomparisonforallofhisfollowingworks.Ashisbest-knownfictionisboththestoryofanindividualandofanage,GrasslifecannotbeunderstoodwithoutreferringtothehistoryofGermany.Hewascalled“Germany’sconscience”,becauseheremindedGermansofapastduringtheSecondWorldWarthatmanywouldhaveratherforgotten.
