Thelittlebabywhale—actuallyasbigasourboat—wasobviouslystuckandcouldnotmove.Themotherdivedunderthewaterandcameupsuddenly,makingbigwhirlpools（漩涡）andwaves."She’stryingtohelpherbaby,butonthewrongside,"myfathersaid.Atthispoint,myfathermovedourboatinasemicircletotheothersideand,headingtheboattowardsthebabywhale,pusheditgently.Withourseveralgentlepushesthebighumpturnedoveranddisappearedunderwater.Thenitswamuprightbesideitsmum.Theystruggledintheirdesperateattemptstoescapebutmissedtheexitandstartedheadinginthewrongdirection.Wehurrieduptothewhalesandtriedtoleadthemtowardsthebaychannel.Slowly,theyletusleadthem,sometimesrisingfromthewaterrightbesideustobreathe--andtogiveusatrustinglookwiththosehugeeyes.Oncetheyhittheirfirstpartofcleanwaterflowingstraightfromthesea,themumgaveusawavewithhertailandofftheyswamintothedistance.

Intheexcitementithadfeltlikeonlyafewminutes,butwehadbeenwiththosewonderfulanimalsforalmostanhourandahalf.Thatwasthesimpleandlastingbeautyoftheday.Nearlyfourdecadeslater,Istilllookbackfondlytothatgoldendayatsea.（
