Eveninaweakjobmarket,theoldcollegetryisn’ttheanswerforeveryone.AbriefingpaperfromtheBrookingsInstitutionwarnsthat“wemayhaveoverdonethemessage”oncollege,seniorfellowIsabelSawhillsaid.

“We’vebeentellingstudentsandtheirfamiliesforyearsthatcollegeistheonlywaytosucceedintheeconomyandofcoursethere’salotoftruthtothat,”Ms.Sawhillsaid.“Onaverageitdoespayoff…Butifyouloaduponawholelotofstudentdebtandthenyoudon’tgraduate,thatisaverybadsituation.”
