It’sthebeginningofanewterm.Youhavejustfinishedjuniorhighandareabouttoenteranewperiodinyourstudies.IamveryhappytohaveallofyouinmyclassandIhopewecanbefriends.Icanseethatsomeofyouareeagertoknowwhatstudyingatseniorhighwillbelike.Willitbedifferentfromjuniorhigh?

Well,therearecertainlymanydifferencesbetweenjuniorhighandseniorhigh,buttherearealsosomethingsthatarethesameineveryschoolinChina.Whataboutschoolsinothercountries?

Dostudentslearndifferentlyandhavedifferentexperiences?

Areschoolsallovertheworldthesame?

Thisisthesubjectofourfirstunit.TodaywearegoingtolookatschoolsintheUnitedKingdomandtrytoworkoutiftheyarethesameordifferentfromschoolsinChina.HerearefourpicturesthatshowsomeaspectsofschoollifeintheUK.Pleaselookatthepictures,readtheinstructionsandtrytodeterminethedifferencesbetweenschoolsinChinaandtheUK.

IntheUnitedKingdom,wecanseehugecampusandlow-risebuildingsinthispicture.ItisthebiggestdifferencefromschoolsinChina.SchoolsinChinausuallyhavealargeenoughcampustomakesurestudentshaveenoughspacetostudyandplayin.Butmostschoolbuildingsaretaller,atleastthreestoreys.

IntheUnitedKingdom,therearerowsoflockersbytheclassroomsforstudentstoputtheirstationery,books,exercise-booksandotherbelongings.InChinastudentsbringwhattheyneedforlessonstoschoolandthentakeitallbackhomeafterschool.MostschoolsinChinadonothavetheequipmentintheclassroom.

Fewerstudentsineachclass:

IntheUnitedKingdom,therearefewerstudentsinaclass,nomorethan30perclass.InChina,Thereareusuallymorestudentsinhighschool,perhaps50to60perclass.Recentlysomeschoolsarebeginningtolimitthenumberofstudentsineachclass.

Ateasewithourteacher:

IntheUnitedKingdom,studentshaveacloserelationshipwiththeirteachers.Theyfeelateaseandfortablewiththem.ItissimilarinChina.Nowadays,lotsofteachersandstudentshaveestablishedagoodrelationshipwitheachother.Theyrespecteachotherandworktogainabetterunderstandingofeachother.
