1.毕业论文（设计）内容要求：

习语是语言中文化内涵积淀最深厚的部分，集中了语言和语言使用者的历史和文化，是语言的核心和精华。

英汉习语好比镜子，能清楚地反映出英汉民族文化的特色。

如果不了解英汉习语的真正文化内涵、背景及其文化差异，就很难理解和正确使用这些习语。

因此，对英汉习语的特点及其文化差异进行研究，有一定的实际意义和价值。

本科毕业论文撰写的目的在于：

培养学生综合运用本学科的基础知识和基本技能，分析、解决实际问题；培养学生科学研究，掌握学术研究基本方法，学会查询资料、文献综述，了解学术论文写作步骤与思路，提高其素质。

因此，要求认真查阅、收集与“英汉习语的特点及其文化差异”这一论题相关的中英文文献参考资料；归纳总结本课题所涉及的相关研究状况及成果，形成课题研究方案，撰写论文开题报告与提纲；运用所学专业知识阐述问题，对查阅的资料进行整理和运用，对其科学论点进行论证。

Asisknowntoall,languageisthemostdirectwayformankindtocommunicateinformationandexchangeideas,anditservesasabridgebetweendifferentpeoplesanddifferentcultures.Idiom,asacrystallizationofhumanwisdom,isregardedastheessenceofanationallanguage.Besides,idiom,asaspecialformoflanguage,carriesalargeamountofculturalinformationandthusiscloselyrelatedtoculture.Itistheheritageofhistoryandproductofculturalevolvement.BothEnglishandChineseareabundantinidiom,whichmirrorsthewell-established,broadandprofoundcultureoftheEastandtheWestrespectively.Thepresentpaper,adoptingacontrastiveapproach,expoundsthedistinctivecharacteristicsofbothEnglishandChineseidioms,whicharenationality,folkishness,figurativeness,integrity,andharmony,andthenitmakesananalysisofculturaldifferencesbetweenEnglishandChineseidiomsintermsofhistoricalculture,geographicalcondition,socialcustomandreligiousbeliefinthehopethatpeoplecanknowmoreaboutEnglishandChineseculturesbystudyingEnglishandChineseidiomsandgetabetterunderstandingoftheidiomsbylearningtheculturalbackgroundsbehindthemandtheirculturalcharacteristics.

摘要

众所周知，语言是人类传达信息和交流思想的最直接方式并且在不同民族和文化中起着桥梁的作用。

习语是人类智慧的结晶，是一个民族语言中的精华。

此外，习语作为一种特殊的语言形式承载着大量的文化信息，因此它们与文化密不可分。

它们是历史遗产和文化演变的产物。

英汉两种语言中都存在着大量的习语，它们犹如镜子，折射出博大精深源远流长的中西文化底蕴。

本文利用对比的方法,阐述了英汉习语的独有特征，也就是习语的民族性，习语的民间性，习语的比喻性，习语的整体性和习语的和谐性；然后进一步分析了英汉习语在历史文化背景、地理环境、风俗习惯和宗教信仰等方面存在的差异，以期通过学习英汉习语能多地了解中国以及英语国家的文化，通过学习其文化背景知识能更好地理解其习语。

Introduction

Idiomsareatypeoflinguisticexpressionswhicharecharacterizedbytheirmetaphoricorsymbolicmeanings.Anylanguagewhichhasalonghistoryisabundantinidioms.Asaspecialkindoflanguagematerial,idiomsenjoygreatpopularityamongpeoplebecauseoftheirconciseness,vividness,distinctivenessandcomprehensiveness（Bao2001:

148）.Idiomspossesssuchavigorouslifethattheyhaveheldtheirplacethroughoutcenturies.Reflectedfromidiomsaretheenvironment,life,historyandcultureofnativespeakersaswellastheirinnermostspiritandfeeling.Therefore,idiomsareregardedasthecoreandessenceoflanguageandculture.Thus,probingthesourcesofidiomsandstudyingtherelationsbetweenidiomsandimportantculturalaspectssuchashistoricalbackgrounds,geographicalconditions,socialcustoms,religiousbeliefsandculturalheritages,etc.willhelpustocomprehendtheculturalelementsinidioms.

Sofarmanylinguistshavebeencarryingoutresearchesforthepurposeofmorefullyunderstandingidioms.Itisinterestingandinspiringtonoticethatrecentidiomresearchershaveconductedresearchesnotonlyinthelinguisticarea,butalsoinotherfields.Somestudytheirsemanticandsyntacticfeaturesandothers,likeFernando（2000）,elaborateonthefunctionsofidiomsintextsanddiscourses.Thosewhostudytheformalandsemanticfeaturescarryouttheirresearchesfromthepurelinguisticperspective,whilethosewhoproposethedifferentprocessingmodelsofidiomsaremorepsychology-oriented.Since1990s,scholarshavepaidmoreattentiontotheculturalelementsinEnglishandChineseidioms.Culturestudiesonidiomshavearousedinterestsofmanyscholars,suchasPingHongandZhangGuoyang（2000）,JiangLei（2000）,etc.,whohavemadegreatcontributionstoculturestudiesonidioms.

Itiswidelyrecognizedthatlanguageandcultureareinteractiveandcannotbeseparated.Idiom,astheessenceoflanguage,inevitablyinteractswithnationalculture.However,divergenceswhichexistbetweendifferentlanguagesandculturesoftenresultinobstaclesinmutualunderstandingbetweenparticipantswhobelongtodifferentcultures.Inotherwords,withtheawarenessofculturaldifferencesbetweenEnglishandChineseidioms,peoplemay

avoidmuchmisunderstandingincross-culturalcommunicationbytryingtorealizetherealintentionofotherparticipants.Therefore,thisthesisintendstomakeacontrastivestudyonculturalaspectsofEnglishandChineseidioms.

EnglishandChineseareabundantinidioms,whicharepeculiartothelanguagesinquestionandloadedwiththenativeculturesandideas.Theyhavebeendescribedasacrystallizationofhumanwitandwisdomandgemsoflanguage.Therefore,idiomsarecolorful,forcibleandthought-provoking.However,divergencesoflanguageandcultureexistbetweenEnglishandChineseidioms,whichoftenresultinobstaclesinmutualunderstandingbetweenEnglishandChinesepeople.Soitisnecessarytomakeacontrastivestudybetweenidiomsinthetwolanguagesandcultures,foritcanhelpustofindtheirsimilaritiesanddifferenceswhichmayshedlightontheappropriatestrategiestobeemployedintheirunderstanding.Thischapterbrieflyintroduceslanguage,cultureandidiom,andtheirrelationshipbetweeneachother.
