Toinvolvestudentsinthisactivityeachgroupshouldhaveagroupleadertohelptheteacherachievethisgoal.Studentsmaychangetheirgroupsevery5or6weekssoastobeabletoknowmoreoftheirclassmates.Theymayalsotaketurnsbeinggroupleaders.
2TheProceduresofGroupDiscussion
Inanidealsmallgroupdiscussion,groupmembersareencouragedtocontributetheirpersonalopinionsorknowledgeofaparticularissue,supportthoseopinions,discussdifferencesofopinionwithinthegroup,andeventually,reporttothewholeclass.Asmallgroupdiscussioncanbegenerallydividedintothefollowingprocedures:

Inthefirstclassofsmallgroupdiscussion,thewholeclassisdividedintoseveralgroups.Howmanygroupsareproduced?
Arethegroupsstudent-selectedorteacher-selected?
Aretheygender-mixedorproficiency-mixed?
Allthesewillbedecidedaccordingtothepracticalsituationoftheclass,forexample,howmanystudentsthereareintheclass,thepurposeoftheactivityandsoon.
