Abstract
OurstudentswillfacemanydifferentsituationswheretheyshouldwriteinEnglish,soweEnglishteachersshouldthinkoftheroleofteachingwritinginourlanguageteachingprocess,andweshouldrealizethattheteachingofwritingisespeciallysignificantforus.Thenhowcanwemakeourstudentswritecorrectly,We’dbettertryourbesttoimproveourstudentwritinglevelofbymakingsentences,discussion,writinginterestingstories,makingdiaries,andholdingsomeEnglishCompositionCompetitions,andweshouldusesometechniques,suchasselectivity,errorcorrections,publishingthestudentcompositionstodealwiththeerrorsinstudentcompositions.Inaword,it’sveryimportantandnecessaryforusteachersofEnglishtoimproveourstudentswritinglevel.

First,writingservesasatoolinteachingalllanguageskills.Itcanbeintegratedwiththeteachingoflisteningcomprehension,oralpresentation,andreadingskills.Forexample,makingnotesandwritingsummariescanbeusedinteachinglisteningcomprehension,writingoutlinesandscriptscanbeusedforthepreparationoforalpresentation,andwritingcanbeintegratedwiththeteachingofreadingskillsbyaskingthestudentstowriteanswerstoreadingcomprehensionquestions.
Second,writingmaybeagoalinitself.Sincewritingisoftenrequiredforpassingaparticularexamination,fromwritingsimpleanswersatanelementaryleveltocomposingessaysatanadvancedlevel,teachingwritingcansurelyhelpmeetstudents’needsinfulfillingtheirfullcourseofstudy.

SoweEnglishteachersshouldknowthatthewritingisveryimportantforourstudents,andatthesametimeweshouldrealizetheteachingofwritingisespeciallysignificantforus,notonlyforitspracticalvalueinhelpingourstudentstocomposealltypesofwritingthatarenecessaryintheirexams,butalsoinhelpingourstudentstohavegoodcommandofalllanguageskillsinEnglish.Atthemoment,mostoftheteachersofEnglisharetryingtheirbesttomaketheirstudentsimprovetheirwrittenEnglish.Buthowtoimprovewritinglevelisn’teasy.Ithinkyou’dbetterputheartsintoitandpaymuchmoreattentiontothegrammarknowledge,spelling,sentences,phrasesandsoon.Ihavesomeideasabouthowtoimproveourstudents’writinglevel.
Firstofall,wehadbetteraskourstudentstodosomestudyingwiththesetphrasesandsentencesstructures.KeepalistofthemandthentrytomakesomesentenceswiththemaccordingtotheEnglishgrammarknowledgeineachclassasoftenaspossible.Forexample,Iwillaskourstudentstomakesentenceswiththenewwordsandphrasesthattheyhavejustlearnedbyheart.Iftheycanwritedownsomecorrectsentenceswiththenewwordsbythemselves,theyaresuretowritesomesimplesentences,andtheywillgraduallywritedownsomelongandcomplexsentences.Atthesametime,wecanstillletthemtranslateafewmoreinterestingsentences.Sotheywillbeinterestedinmakingsentences,andiftheykeeponmakingsentences,theywillbeconfidentinwritingsentences,andtheywillalsobeconfidentinwritingcompositions.BecausephrasesandsentencesarethebasicrequirementforthestudentsofEnglishandtheyarethebaseofagood composition.
Secondly,wecanaskourstudentstodiscussabouttheinterestingandinstructivetopics.Forexample,thestudentshavelearnedsomethingabouttravel.Letthemdiscusswheretheyhaveeverbeentoandwhichplacesarebeautifulandinteresting.First,wecanaskthemtowritedowntheoutlinesofthestory.Inmyopinion,thisisoneofthemosteffectivemethodstoimprovetheirwritingskills.Inthisway,they'llbeinterestedinexpressingtheirideasinEnglish.Infact,interestisthebestteacherinlearningeverything.SoIsuggestthatweteachersofEnglishshoulddevelopthestudents’interests.Stepbystep,theyaregladandactivetowritecompositions.Theteachersneedn’tforcethemtowrite,whilethey'llbeactivetoexpresstheirthoughts.Therearemanywayswecouldusetohelpourstudentsintheirdiscussingandwriting.Herearethreeexamples:
Wecouldarrangetheclassintoseveraldiscussiongroups,eachwithasecretarytowritedownalltheideasproposedbythegroupmembers.Thesecretarythenreadsthedraftaloudtothegroupforthemtoreviewandmakechanges.Thisprocesscouldcarryonforsometimeuntilallthemembersaresatisfiedwiththecontentandstructure.Thenthegroupcouldreadthedraftonebyonetocheckitsspelling,punctuation,andgrammar.Afterthisdraftsmadebydifferentgroupscouldbeexchangedtoreceivecommentsfromeachotheronrestructuringorrevision.
Wecouldalsoarrangetheclassintoakindofworkshop,whereweprovidestudentswithroughpaper,scissors,paste,erasers,etc.forthemtocutandchangethestructureoftheirfirstdraft.Whiletheprocessisgoingon,wecouldintervenetoprovidehelpforthemthroughquestioningandadvising.
Draftingandredraftingcouldbecarriedoutinamoreinterestingwayifwehaveaccesstocomputers,sincecuttingandpastingoncomputerscanbedonemoreeasilyandprovideanenjoyableexperienceforthestudents.Theothergreatadvantagesarethattheycanseetheirrevisedversionimmediatelyonthedisplayscreen.

Inprovidinganswersfortheabovequestions,thestudentswillbegoingthroughtheprocessofthinkingdeeplyabouttheirwritingandtheorganizationofitsstructure.Theprocesswillenablethemtofocusonwhattheywanttosayandhowtosayitmosteffectively.Thisprocessmayincluderemovingwords,sentencesandparagraphs,oraddingmoretothebodyofwhathasalreadybeenwritten.Thisprocesscouldtakealongtime. Thirdly,Isuggestthatweshouldguideourstudentstowriteaftertheyhavefinishedlookingatsomeinterestingandinstructivepictureswhichareformedontoastory.Atthebeginning,wehadbetterguidethemtohavesomediscussionaboutit.Thentheycanmakeupawholestoryinthelimitedtime.Iadvisethatthepictureswe’llchooseshouldbeeasyforthemtoread.Iftheycanunderstandthemeaningofthestoryveryeasily,theyareabletoexpresstheirideasbetter,otherwisethey'llbebored. Fourthly,ourstudentsshouldtrytoformgoodhabitsofmakingdiarieseveryday,atleasttheyhadbetterwritedownsomestorieseveryweek.AsteachersofEnglish,weshouldencouragethemtowritemoreinEnglish.Ontheotherhand,weshouldbestrictinourworkandwithourstudents.Weshouldaskourstudentstohandintheircompositionsontimeandoughttochecktheirarticlesintime.
