摘要

本论文将主要研究菲茨杰拉德最为著名的小说：
《了不起的盖茨比》。
该书也被誉为是20世纪20年代美国社会的缩影。
《了不起的盖茨比》的一个主要特色是它书中个性鲜明的女性角色。
这些女性角色对推动情节发展，深化书的主题起到了巨大的作用。
本论文将主要分析此书中的各类女性角色。
在第一部分，论文将会介绍关于菲茨杰拉德和他的作品的一些背景信息。
接下来的第二部分将主要针对20世纪20年代，即故事发生年代的一些历史背景的介绍。
剩下的部分，论文将会分析书中的女性角色。

Fitzgeraldisgenerallyacknowledgedasoneofthegreatestnovelistsin1920sinAmericanliterature.ThomasStearnsEliothadsuchacommentinhisColumbiaLiteraryHistoryoftheUnitedStates:
“Noothernovelistswere，collectively,soinfluentialinthedevelopmentofmodernAmericanfictionasGertudeStein,F．ScottFitzgerald,andErnestHemingway.”（873）ThispaperwillfocusonFitzgerald’sbestknownwork--TheGreatGatsby,whichisacclaimedasamirrorofAmericasocietyin1920s.ThisbookensuresFitzgerald’sleadingpositioninAmericanliterature.
AmainfeatureofTheGreatGatsbyisitsdistinctivedispositionoffemalecharacters.Thesefemalecharactershavegreateffectinpromotingthedevelopmentofplotanddeepeningthetheme.Thispaperwillmainlyanalyzethefemalecharactersinthisnovel.Inthefirstpart,somebackgroundinformationaboutFitzgeraldandhisworkswillbeintroducedbriefly,alsoincludinghisworks’influenceinChina.NextpartisaboutthehistorybackgroundofAmericain1920s,whenthestoryhappens.Thenintherestofthispaper,threemainfemaleimagesinthisnovelwillbeanalyzedindetail:
Daisy,JordanandMyrtle.Astherepresentativeofeachclass,theyhaveplayedveryimportantrolesinthenovel.Fromtheirappearance,dialogue,andbehaviors,peoplecanfindtheirpersonality,moralvalueandsoon.BasedontheanalysisofthesethreetypicalAmericanfemaleatthattimeandsomeothertextanalysisofthebook,conclusionwillbedrewaboutthelifestyle,socialstatusandmoralvalueofAmericanwomanin1920s.
Writingworksusuallyimitatereallife.Thusnovelscanbeseemedastheepitomeoftherealsociety.ThroughlearningthefeaturesoffemalecharactersinTheGreatGatsby,thepsychologicalconstructionandethicalstandardofwomanin1920scanbeexposed.Thiskindofresearchhelpspeopleknowmoreabouthistoryandhumanbeingsatoneperiodinthepast.Inaddition,manypeoplehavealreadydonelotsofresearchandachievedalotinstudyingfemalesinthisbook.Ihopethispapercanalsodosomecontributiontoit.
